Adverse Events Associated With Coprescription of Phosphodiesterase Type 5 Inhibitors and Oral Organic Nitrates in Male Patients With Ischemic Heart Disease : A Case-Crossover Study
CONCLUSION: From 2000 to 2018, the use of PDE5 inhibitors increased 20-fold among Danish patients with IHD who were taking nitrates. A statistically significant association between concomitant use of these medications and cardiovascular adverse events could not be identified.PRIMARY FUNDING SOURCE: Ib Mogens Kristiansens Almene Fond and Helsefonden.PMID:35436155 | DOI:10.7326/M21-3445

The Informal International Network Getting Disabled Ukrainians Out of the War Zone
When Tanya Herasymova woke up on February 24 to the news that Russia had invaded Ukraine, her first thought was to get underground. If the Russian army began bombing her city Kamianske, close to the separatist region Donetsk, she would be at greater risk in her 4th floor apartment. But there was a problem: none of the city’s bomb shelters were accessible to wheelchair users, leaving Herasymova with nowhere to take cover. “It was a horrible feeling because I knew that I couldn’t go down there by myself. I can’t be alone, I need someone to help me,” Herasymova says. “I realized that the on...

Work stress and loss of years lived without chronic disease: an 18-year follow-up of 1.5 million employees in Denmark
AbstractWe aimed to examine the association between exposure to work stress and chronic disease incidence and loss of chronic disease-free life years in the Danish workforce. The study population included 1,592,491 employees, aged 30 –59 in 2000 and without prevalent chronic diseases. We assessed work stress as the combination of job strain and effort-reward imbalance using job exposure matrices. We used Cox regressions to estimate risk of incident hospital-diagnoses or death of chronic diseases (i.e., type 2 diabetes, coronar y heart disease, stroke, cancer, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart failure, ...

Sex and Age Differences in Patient-Reported Acute Stroke Symptoms
ConclusionsPatients of female sex and younger age reported on admission more frequently atypical stroke symptoms. Attention should be drawn to this possible atypical first presentation to facilitate correct identification and early stroke revascularization treatment to improve the outcome for both sexes.

Clinical risk factors for retinal artery occlusions: a nationwide case-control study
CONCLUSION: The investigated risk factors suggest that atherosclerosis and conditions changing the intraocular pressure are involved in the pathophysiology of RAO.PMID:35305540 | DOI:10.1007/s10792-022-02247-z

Sensors, Vol. 22, Pages 2273: Determinants of Different Aspects of Upper-Limb Activity after Stroke
We examined factors associated with different aspects of upper-limb (UL) activity in chronic stroke to better understand and improve UL activity in daily life. Three different aspects of UL activity were represented by four sensor measures: (1) contribution to activity according to activity ratio and magnitude ratio, (2) intensity of activity according to bilateral magnitude, and (3) variability of activity according to variation ratio. We combined data from a Belgian and Danish patient cohort (n = 126) and developed four models to determine associated factors for each sensor measure. Results from standard multiple regress...

Association of Coronary Plaque With Low-Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Levels and Rates of Cardiovascular Disease Events Among Symptomatic Adults
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: The findings of this cohort study suggest that in symptomatic patients with severely elevated LDL-C levels of at least 190 mg/dL who are universally considered to be at high risk by guidelines, absence of calcified and noncalcified plaque on coronary computed tomographic angiography was associated with low risk for ASCVD events. These results further suggest that atherosclerosis burden, including CAC, can be used to individualize treatment intensity in patients with severely elevated LDL-C levels.PMID:35147685 | DOI:10.1001/jamanetworkopen.2021.48139
