This article describes the neurologic manifestations of systemic autoimmune diseases. RECENT FINDINGS Systemic autoimmune diseases can be associated with a wide spectrum of neurologic comorbidities involving the central and peripheral nervous systems. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) can be associated with a number of manifestations predominantly affecting the central nervous system (CNS), whereas peripheral neuropathy is less common. Stroke in systemic lupus erythematosus: epidemiology, mechanism, and long-term outcome.
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of stroke in this cohort was 3.1%. Ischemic strokes had a bimodal presentation, occurring either early after SLE diagnosis or after a several-year delay. Half of the hemorrhagic strokes occurred >10 years after the diagnosis of SLE. Clinical outcome was usually good with a relatively low recurrence rate. Immunological biomarkers in neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus: a comparative cross-sectional study from a tertiary care center in South India.
CONCLUSION: No single biomarker correlated with NPSLE. Among different NPSLE manifestations, the prevalence of IgG β2GP1 in stroke, LA in demyelination, anti-ribosomal P in psychosis and anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein in mood disorder were higher. Framingham, ACC/AHA or QRISK3: which is the best in systemic lupus erythematosus cardiovascular risk estimation?
CONCLUSIONS: QRISK3 classifies a greater number of SLE patients at high-risk of developing CV diseases over the next 10 years in comparison with classic algorithms as Framingham and ACC/AHA. If its predictive accuracy were confirmed by longitudinal data, QRISK3 could become an important tool in the early detection of a considerable part of CV high-risk SLE patients that would be underestimated when applying classic algorithms. The diagnostic utility of routine clot analysis after endovascular thrombectomy in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid syndrome
We present a case demonstrating histopathological clot findings after endovascular thrombectomy for acute ischaemic stroke in a 38 year-old male with systemic lupus erythematosus and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS). The differential diagnosis was embolism of a suspected Libman-Sacks vegetation or less likely an in-situ thrombosis. Clot analysis provided guidance with patient management and anticoagulation was commenced. The utility of clot analysis in this case provides support for routine clot analysis, which has been standard practice at our institution, and is likely to evolve as endovascular thrombectomy becomes more widely accessible.
