In this study, we wanted to delineate weather the application of tDCS in the subacute stage of recovery post-stroke is superior over the chronic stage. Anodal and sham tDCS was applied to the primary motor cortex of 13 stroke patients in balanced cross-over design during subacute and chronic stages of recovery. The Jebsen-Taylor Hand Function test, evaluating the time required for performance of everyday motor tasks, was employed. The repeated-measure ANOVA showed significant influence of stimulation type, the test performance time relative to stimulation (during or after tDCS) with no overall influence of the stage of rec...

We report a case of agranulocytosis resulting from ceftriaxone noted more than 3 weeks into therapy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 72-year-old woman who was started on ceftriaxone for septic arthritis of the left knee 3 weeks before presentation was admitted to the hospital after being found to be neutropenic on outpatient laboratory analysis. Her absolute neutrophil count on admission was 0/μL. The cause of the agranulocytosis was suspected to be ceftriaxone. The drug was stopped, and she was started on granulocyte colony-stimulating factor with gradual resolution of the neutropenia. DISCUSSION: Serious adverse effects ...

Conclusions This pilot trial established the feasibility of a randomized controlled trial comparing mirror-aided cross-education with cross-education alone for poststroke upper limb recovery. Mirror therapy did not augment cross-education when training isometrically. However, results indicate that the combination of interventions should be investigated further applying an altered training protocol.

ConclusionDespite the immense health problems facing the countries, the overall research output from the South Asian countries is poor as evidenced by the cumulative number of publications or a comparison on a global scale. This needs urgent and serious attention. We suggest that inter-country research collaborations, student exchanges, compulsory research projects in undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, adequate funding and incentives for research publication may be some of the ways forward.
