Telephonic intervention to combat non-adherence to oral iron-folic acid supplementation in pregnancy: A randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSION: In addition to improving adherence to oral IFAS, telephonic intervention mitigates side effects and enhances hemoglobin in anemic pregnant women. The increase in adherence was threefold in the experimental group compared to a marginal rise in the control group. This study recommends the implementation of a telephonic intervention to promote adherence to oral IFAS among anemic pregnant women.PMID:37736306 | PMC:PMC10509657 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100235

Plasticity of gastrointestinal vagal afferents in terms of feeding-related physiology and pathophysiology
J Physiol. 2023 Sep 22. doi: 10.1113/JP284075. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGastrointestinal vagal afferents play an important role in communicating food related information from the gut to the brain. This information initiates vago-vagal reflexes essential for gut functions, including gut motility and secretions. These afferents also play a role in energy homeostasis, signalling the arrival, amount and nutrient composition of a meal to the central nervous system where it is processed ultimately leading to termination of a meal. Vagal afferent responses to food related stimuli demonstrate a high degree of plasticity, resp...

Pregnancy and progression of differentiated thyroid cancer: A propensity score-matched retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: Pregnancy seemed to be irrelevant to DTC progression-free survival before surgical treatment. Further prospective cohort studies are needed to translate this finding into clinical practice.PMID:37738427 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad557

Antenatal corticosteroids in specific groups at risk of preterm birth: a systematic review
Conclusions There is a paucity of evidence on ACS for women who have diabetes. ACS therapy may have benefits in women with chorioamnionitis and is probably beneficial in FGR. There is limited direct trial evidence on ACS efficacy in women undergoing planned CS in the late preterm period, though the totality of evidence suggests it is probably beneficial. Alteration of relative telomere length and telomerase reverse transcriptase expression in the granulosa cells of women during aging and assessment of < em > in vitro < /em > fertilization outcomes
Mol Med Rep. 2023 Nov;28(5):206. doi: 10.3892/mmr.2023.13093. Epub 2023 Sep 21.ABSTRACTTelomere attrition plays a critical role in the reproductive aging process in humans. Telomere length (TL) is typically regulated by telomerase, the main component of which is telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT). The aim of the present study was to investigate the changes of relative TL (RTL) and TERT expression in granulosa cells (GCs) during aging and its association with reproduction. Clinical data on the frozen‑thawed embryo transfer cycles of older (>35 year old) and younger (≤35 year old) women from a single center over ...

The Effect of delivery method on optimality level and postpartum comfort in primiparous women
CONCLUSIONS: In accordance with the data, the optimality level of women has decreased due to non-evidence-based practices and invasive procedures during SVD. The total comfort score of the SVD group has also been negatively affected.PMID:37732112 | PMC:PMC10507186 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100231

Vascular and autonomic function as early predictive biomarkers of the progression to gestational hypertension
CONCLUSIONS: Developed GH is preceded early in pregnancy by endothelial dysfunction and increased arterial stiffness. In this context, there are SNS-PNS interrelation modifications with less inhibition of PNS.PMID:37732111 | PMC:PMC10507205 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100236

Assisted reproductive technology outcomes and management considerations for people with epilepsy
Curr Opin Endocrinol Diabetes Obes. 2023 Sep 22. doi: 10.1097/MED.0000000000000838. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE OF REVIEW: Epilepsy is a common neurologic condition amongst people with reproductive capacity, and assisted reproductive technology (ART) is being increasingly utilized. A recent population-based study described favorable outcomes of ART in this population, but other work shows how fluctuating sex hormones may influence medication concentrations and seizures.RECENT FINDINGS: This review discusses hormonal influences on epilepsy and catamenial epilepsy, considerations regarding fertility in women with e...

Subchronic oral toxicity assessment of a cannabis extract
Regul Toxicol Pharmacol. 2023 Sep 19:105496. doi: 10.1016/j.yrtph.2023.105496. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCannabidiol (CBD) is present in Cannabis Sativa L. and has been used in medicines and foods to deliver beneficial health effects. Despite this, research on CBD safety utilising modern testing methods is lacking. Therefore three separate safety experiments were performed on a CBD isolate. Sprague-Dawley rats were used to investigate prenatal development, a 14-day toxicity sighting study, and an OECD compliant 90-day subchronic oral toxicity trial, with 35-day off-dose recovery. The prenatal screening study demonstrat...

Relationships of pregnancy and postpartum diet quality with offspring birth weight and weight status through 12  months
CONCLUSIONS: Maternal diet quality during pregnancy (and during postpartum in mothers who breastfed for a longer duration) was inversely related to LGA and weight status indicators from birth through 12 months. Increasing maternal diet quality may have use for promoting healthy infant weight development.PMID:37731285 | DOI:10.1002/oby.23891
