Thyroglobulin antibodies in women with recurrent pregnancy loss: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions: Women with RPL were significantly more often TgAb-positive than women without RPL. Although there was a lack of studies reporting prospective outcomes, the findings of this study support the significance of awareness about the strong association between RPL and thyroid autoimmunity.PMID:37725583 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0292

Peripartum Depression: Detection and Treatment
Am Fam Physician. 2023 Sep;108(3):267-272.ABSTRACTPeripartum depression is one of the most common disorders of pregnancy. It has a higher morbidity and mortality risk than any other condition affecting pregnant people. The American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommend that pregnant patients be screened for depression with one of several validated tools and offered treatment with psychotherapy and medication. There are no validated tools available to identify who is at increased risk of...

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus: Update on Screening, Diagnosis, and Management
Am Fam Physician. 2023 Sep;108(3):249-258.ABSTRACTGestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common condition of pregnancy with increasing prevalence in the United States. GDM increases risks of complications, including operative delivery, hypertensive disorders, shoulder dystocia, fetal macrosomia, large-for-gestational-age infants, neonatal hypoglycemia, and neonatal respiratory distress. In patients who are overweight or obese, prepregnancy weight loss and lifestyle modifications during pregnancy may prevent GDM. First-trimester screening can identify preexisting diabetes and early-onset GDM for prompt implementation of g...

Oncological and reproductive outcomes of conization combined with pelvic node evaluation in patients with early-stage cervical cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionCervical conization combined with pelvic lymph node evaluation for fertility preservation in young ECC patients can achieve oncological outcomes similar to radical surgery while improving pregnancy success rates and preserving postoperative fertility. In summary, fertility preservation treatment using cervical conization combined with pelvic lymph node evaluation may be considered as a viable option for young ECC patients with strong fertility preservation desire, resulting in better pregnancy and live birth outcomes.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/#myprospero, identifier PROSPERO (CRD42023423432).

Early-to-mid pregnancy sleep and circadian markers in relation to birth outcomes: An epigenetics pilot study
Chronobiol Int. 2023 Sep 18:1-11. doi: 10.1080/07420528.2023.2256854. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMaternal sleep and circadian health during pregnancy are emerging as important predictors of pregnancy outcomes, but examination of potential epigenetic mechanisms is rare. We investigated links between maternal leukocyte DNA methylation of circadian genes and birth outcomes within a pregnancy cohort. Women (n = 96) completed a questionnaire and provided a blood sample at least once during early-to-mid pregnancy (average gestation weeks = 14.2). Leukocyte DNA was isolated and DNA methylation (average percent of methylation) ...

Prediction of labour outcomes using prelabour computerised cardiotocogram and maternal and fetal Doppler indices: A  prospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: In pregnant women admitted in latent phase of labour or for induction of labour at term, prelabour cCTG STV had a weakly positive association with umbilical cord arterial pH but was not predictive of emergency delivery due to pathological CTG during labour.PMID:37718558 | DOI:10.1111/1471-0528.17669

The true natural cycle frozen embryo transfer - impact of patient and follicular phase characteristics on serum progesterone levels one day prior to warmed blastocyst transfer
CONCLUSION: The BMI, LUF, peak-E2, and peak-P4 levels are independent predictors of low serum P4 levels on FET-1 (< 25th percentile; <9.3 ng/ml) in t-NC FET cycles. Recognition of risk factors for low serum P4 on FET-1 may permit a personalized approach for LPS in t-NC FET to maximize reproductive outcomes.PMID:37723581 | DOI:10.1186/s12958-023-01136-z

Functional status, social support, and anxiety among postnatal women of Eastern India
CONCLUSION: After six weeks of childbirth, most women only partially resumed their pre-pregnancy functional state. So, much more time, rest, and support from family members were needed to recover to a fully functional level. Nurses, midwives, and the family members of women should be aware of the critical role that social support plays in enhancing a woman's functional and psychological status during the postpartum period.PMID:37720888 | PMC:PMC10502358 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100238

Prenatal PM2.5 exposure increases the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes: evidence from meta-analysis of cohort studies
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29700-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAdverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) are a significant cause of fetal death. A wide range of maternal psychological, social, and environmental factors may contribute to these outcomes. Mounting epidemiological studies have indicated that PM2.5 may result in these unfavorable consequences. Previously published meta-analyses have been updated and extended. Cohort studies were searched from three databases (up to July 24, 2023), and their quality was assessed by Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). Publication bias was examined by Eg...
