Early-to-mid pregnancy sleep and circadian markers in relation to birth outcomes: An epigenetics pilot study
Chronobiol Int. 2023 Sep 18:1-11. doi: 10.1080/07420528.2023.2256854. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMaternal sleep and circadian health during pregnancy are emerging as important predictors of pregnancy outcomes, but examination of potential epigenetic mechanisms is rare. We investigated links between maternal leukocyte DNA methylation of circadian genes and birth outcomes within a pregnancy cohort. Women (n = 96) completed a questionnaire and provided a blood sample at least once during early-to-mid pregnancy (average gestation weeks = 14.2). Leukocyte DNA was isolated and DNA methylation (average percent of methylation) ...

Prenatal PM2.5 exposure increases the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes: evidence from meta-analysis of cohort studies
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Sep 19. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29700-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAdverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) are a significant cause of fetal death. A wide range of maternal psychological, social, and environmental factors may contribute to these outcomes. Mounting epidemiological studies have indicated that PM2.5 may result in these unfavorable consequences. Previously published meta-analyses have been updated and extended. Cohort studies were searched from three databases (up to July 24, 2023), and their quality was assessed by Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). Publication bias was examined by Eg...

Clinical features, risk factors, and outcomes of diffuse alveolar hemorrhage in antiphospholipid syndrome: A mixed-method approach combining a multicenter cohort with a systematic literature review
CONCLUSION: APS-associated DAH is associated with high morbidity and mortality, particularly when presenting with triple positivity, thrombocytopenia, valvular involvement, and CAPS.PMID:37722463 | DOI:10.1016/j.clim.2023.109775

Functional status, social support, and anxiety among postnatal women of Eastern India
CONCLUSION: After six weeks of childbirth, most women only partially resumed their pre-pregnancy functional state. So, much more time, rest, and support from family members were needed to recover to a fully functional level. Nurses, midwives, and the family members of women should be aware of the critical role that social support plays in enhancing a woman's functional and psychological status during the postpartum period.PMID:37720888 | PMC:PMC10502358 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100238

Regulation of sexually dimorphic placental adaptation in LPS exposure-induced intrauterine growth restriction
CONCLUSIONS: Our results present the sexually dimorphic responses of placental physiology in intrauterine growth restriction model and provide tentative relationship further to be elucidated between sex-biased placental functional change and long-term effects on the offspring's later life.PMID:37718409 | DOI:10.1186/s10020-023-00688-5

The impact of intimate partner violence on adverse birth outcomes in public health facilities. A prospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: The incidence of adverse birth outcomes was significantly higher in the physically IPV-exposed group than in the non-exposed group. Therefore, pregnant women should be screened for IPV during their antenatal period. Thus, IPV-exposed pregnant women should be counseled and closely followed up.PMID:37717345 | DOI:10.1016/j.midw.2023.103815

Joint effects of prenatal exposure to air pollution and pregnancy-related anxiety on birth weight: A prospective birth cohort study in Ma' anshan, China
CONCLUSION: Using the method of analyzing mixed exposures, we found that during pregnancy, the combined exposure of air pollutants and PrA, particularly during trimester 1, is associated with BWz decrease. This supports the view that prenatal exposure to chemical and non-chemical stressors has an impact on fetal growth.PMID:37717800 | DOI:10.1016/j.envres.2023.117161

Comparison of three reproductive management strategies for lactating dairy cows using combination of estrus detection or ovulation synchronization and Fixed-Timed Artificial Insemination
The objective of this study was to compare the reproductive performance of lactating dairy cows submitted to first AI after combination of estrus detection and fixed timed AI (FTAI) and FTAI only. Cows were randomly assigned to receive AI at detected estrus between 50 and 70 d in milk (DIM), if not detected in estrus, were enrolled in either Ovsynch (ED-Ov, n = 485) or PRIDsynch (ED-PR, n = 505) protocols; or received FTAI at 80 DIM after Double-Ovsynch protocol (DO, n = 501). Cows were body condition scored (BCS) at calving and at 43 DIM; and evaluated for postpartum disorders within 7 d postpartum; clinical mastitis, lam...

Assessing household fine particulate matter (PM < sub > 2.5 < /sub > ) through measurement and modeling in the Bangladesh cook stove pregnancy cohort study (CSPCS)
This study demonstrates that we can predict household PM2.5 with moderate to high confidence using ambient PM2.5 and household characteristics. Our results present a framework for estimating household PM2.5 exposures in LMICs, which are often understudied and underrepresented due to resource limitations.PMID:37717899 | DOI:10.1016/j.envpol.2023.122568

Relationship between Dental Caries Experience and the Levels of Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus in Saliva of Pregnant Women
This study aims to correlate dental caries experience with Streptococcus mutans and lactobacillus levels in saliva using real-time PCR. This case-control analytical study conducted in Erbil City, Iraq, between 2021 and 2023 used a Cariogram to assess tooth decay risk and a real-time PCR assay to detect oral bacteria. Kurdish chewing gum with oil extract was used to stimulate saliva production. The chance of preventing tooth decay was 50.57% in pregnant women and 60.26% in non-pregnant women, with a statistically significant difference. The correlation between caries risk categories and Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillu...
