Prenatal Diagnosis and Molecular Cytogenetic Analyses of a de novo Deletion on Chromosome 4p16.3p15.33
Altern Ther Health Med. 2023 Sep 15:AT8915. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWolf-Hirschhorn syndrome (WHS) (OMIM 194190) is a contiguous gene syndrome with an estimated prevalence of around 1 in 50,000 births. The syndrome is caused by the deletion of a critical region (Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome Critical region-WHSCR) on chromosome 4p16.3. Its core features are typical facial gestalt, growth retardation, intellectual disability, developmental delay, and seizures. Prenatal diagnosis of WHS helps clinicians and parents make informed decisions about pregnancy management. In this research, a 31-year-old woman (gravida 1, para 0) ...

Establishment and Validation of Risk Prediction Model for Postpartum Hemorrhage for Pregnant Women ≥35 Years of Age in Natural Delivery
CONCLUSIONS: The PPH risk-prediction model for vaginal delivery for pregnant women ≥35 years of age showed that a greater age, pregnancy-induced hypertension, a lower prelabor FIB, a longer third stage of labor, and a higher birth weight for the newborn were significantly related to the incidence of PPH and that its use could be clinically helpful.PMID:37708560

Proximity hybridization regulated dual-mode ratiometric biosensor for estriol detection in pregnancy serum
Anal Chim Acta. 2023 Oct 16;1278:341689. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2023.341689. Epub 2023 Aug 4.ABSTRACTSensitive and accurate determination of estriol level is vastly significant for the fetal growth and development. Herein, we constructed a dual-mode ratiometric biosensor for estriol assay combining the competitive immunoreaction, proximity hybridization with a two-step resonance energy transfer (RET) strategy. Estriol antibody and goat anti-rabbit antibody labeled DNA probes (Ab1-DNA1-Pt NPs and Ab2-DNA2) both hybridized with silver nanoclusters labeled DNA strands (H1-Ag NCs). Thus, the formed proximity hybridization enabled ...

A 10-Year Observational Study on Twin Pregnancy: Role of Fetal Sex Pairing on Obstetric Outcome
Twin Res Hum Genet. 2023 Sep 14:1-7. doi: 10.1017/thg.2023.38. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFetal sex contributes to the determination of obstetric outcome, as pregnancies carrying male babies seem to have an increased risk of maternal-fetal complications. Most studies have been conducted on singleton pregnancies, whereas less evidence is available for twins. A 10-year retrospective observational study was conducted on a cohort of 1180 women with twin pregnancy delivered at a single tertiary hospital. Clinical data on maternal characteristics, and obstetric and neonatal outcomes were collected, and the analysis was perfor...

Rosuvastatin effects on the HDL proteome in hyperlipidemic patients
Acta Pharm. 2023 Sep 14;73(3):363-384. doi: 10.2478/acph-2023-0034. Print 2023 Sep 1.ABSTRACTThe advancements in proteomics have provided a better understanding of the functionality of apolipoproteins and lipoprotein-associated proteins, with the HDL lipoprotein fraction being the most studied. The focus of this study was to evaluate the HDL proteome in dyslipidemic subjects without an established cardiovascular disease, as well as to test whether rosuvastatin treatment alters the HDL proteome. Patients with primary hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia were assigned to 20 mg/day rosuvastatin and blood samples were dr...

Congenital Mpox Syndrome (Clade I) in Stillborn Fetus after Placental Infection and Intrauterine Transmission, Democratic Republic of the Congo, 2008
We report the autopsy pathology findings of a 21-week stillborn fetus with congenital mpox syndrome that occurred in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2008. The fetus acquired mpox from the mother after intrauterine transplacental monkeypox virus transmission. We confirmed monkeypox virus infection in the mother, fetus, and placenta by using a monkeypox virus-specific quantitative PCR. Subtyping of the virus was not performed, but the mother and fetus were almost certainly infected with the clade I variant that was endemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the time. Risk for intrauterine infection appears to...

Preliminary evidence of an increased susceptibility to face pareidolia in postpartum women
Biol Lett. 2023 Sep;19(9):20230126. doi: 10.1098/rsbl.2023.0126. Epub 2023 Sep 13.ABSTRACTAs primates, we are hypersensitive to faces and face-like patterns in the visual environment, hence we often perceive illusory faces in otherwise inanimate objects, such as burnt pieces of toast and the surface of the moon. Although this phenomenon, known as face pareidolia, is a common experience, it is unknown whether our susceptibility to face pareidolia is static across our lifespan or what factors would cause it to change. Given the evidence that behaviour towards face stimuli is modulated by the neuropeptide oxytocin (OT), we re...

Demystifying the impact of prenatal tobacco exposure on the placental immune microenvironment: Avoiding the tragedy of mending the fold after death
This study aims to meticulously examine the repercussions of PTE on placental immune landscapes, employing a coordinated research methodology encompassing bioinformatics, machine learning and animal studies. Concurrently, it aims to screen biomarkers and potential compounds that could sensitively indicate and mitigate placental immune disorders. In the course of this research, two gene expression omnibus (GEO) microarrays, namely GSE27272 and GSE7434, were included. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and immune enrichment investigations on differentially expressed genes (DEGs) indicated that PTE might perturb numerous inn...

Exploring food intake networks and anhedonia symptoms in a Chilean Adults sample
CONCLUSIONS: Subjects with anhedonia symptoms have a more central consumption of foods with a high or medium glycemic index compared to subjects without anhedonia symptoms, which could trigger the development of chronic diet-related diseases.PMID:37704006 | DOI:10.1016/j.appet.2023.107042

Partner relationship quality and IL-6:IL-10 trajectories from pregnancy to a year after-birth
CONCLUSION: Lower partner support may be associated with reduced moderation of IL-6 by IL-10 between pregnancy and a year postpartum, with possible consequences for maternal health and well-being.PMID:37704011 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbi.2023.09.007

Operative hysteroscopy versus ultrasound-guided electric vacuum aspiration for removal of retained products of conception: A prospective cohort study
CONCLUSION: In our cohort study, no significant differences in IUAs or complications were found. RPOC removal with HR was more often complete than removal with EVA, and additional therapeutic hysteroscopy was less frequently required after HR. These findings need to be correlated with those of RCTs.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: The study was registered in de Dutch Trial Register (NTR4923). Date of registration 23-11-2014. Date of first enrollment 01-01-2015. https://trialsearch.who.int/Trial2.aspx?TrialID=NTR4923.PMID:37701632 | PMC:PMC10493502 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100230

Trends in the use for labor analgesia in twin pregnancies: A nationwide register-based analysis in Finland
CONCLUSIONS: The main finding of this study was that women with twin pregnancies had a higher rate of epidural analgesia than women with singleton pregnancies. The results of this study should be acknowledged by midwives, obstetricians, and anesthesiologists to provide optimal pain relief for mothers with twin pregnancies and encourage researchers to further research on this topic.PMID:37700887 | PMC:PMC10494306 | DOI:10.1016/j.eurox.2023.100232
