Iodine-triphenylphosphine triggers an easy one-pot alpha stereoselective dehydrative glycosylation on hemiacetalic benzylated glycosyl donors
Carbohydr Res. 2023 Sep 16;533:108944. doi: 10.1016/j.carres.2023.108944. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe discovery of new glycosylation reactions is still a major challenge in carbohydrate chemistry. Traditional glycosylation reactions require the preparation of sugar donors with anomeric active or latent leaving groups. Dehydrative glycosylation is a fascinating alternative that enables the direct formation of the glycosidic bond from the hemiacetal, eliminating the need for (sometimes unstable) leaving groups, and allowing to reduce reaction, work-up, and purification times. Although some interesting methods of dehydr...

Melatonin targets ferroptosis through bimodal alteration of redox environment and cellular pathways in NAFLD model
Biosci Rep. 2023 Sep 20:BSR20230128. doi: 10.1042/BSR20230128. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFerroptosis is a non-conventional cellular death caused by lipid peroxide induced iron deposition. Intracellular lipid accumulation followed by generation of lipid peroxides is an Hallmark of Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). Melatonin (MLT) is an important pineal hormone with tremendous antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Various studies targeted ferroptosis in different diseases using melatonin. However, none of them focused the intrinsic mechanism of MLT's action to counteract ferroptosis in NAFLD. Hence, the ...

Fabrication of versatile polyvinyl alcohol and carboxymethyl cellulose-based hydrogels for information hiding and flexible sensors: Heat-induced adjustable stiffness and transparency
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Sep 18:126950. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.126950. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWith the growing demand for wearable electronics, designing biocompatible hydrogels that combine self-repairability, wide operating temperature and precise sensing ability offers a promising scheme. Herein, by interpenetrating naturally derived carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) into a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) gel matrix, a novel hydrogel is successfully developed via simple coordination with calcium chloride (CaCl2). The chelation of CMC and Ca2+ is applied as a second crosslinking mechanism to stabilize the hydrogel at r...

Regulating oxygen vacancies and hydroxyl groups of α-MnO < sub > 2 < /sub > nanorods for enhancing post-plasma catalytic removal of toluene
In this study, α-MnO2 nanorods with tunable oxygen vacancies and hydroxyl groups were synthesized by two-step hydrothermal process to enhance their activity for deep oxidation of toluene. Hydrochloric acid (HCl) was used to assist in synthesis of α-MnO2 nanorods with tunable oxygen vacancies, furtherly, more hydroxyl groups were introduced to HCl-assisted synthesized α-MnO2 by K+ supplement. The results showed that the as-synthesized nanorods exhibited superior activity, improved by nearly 30% removal efficiency of toluene compared to pristine MnO2 at SIE = 339 J/L, and reaching high COx selectivity of 72% at SIE = 483 ...

Do adolescent trajectories of riding with an impaired driver and driving impaired predict similar behaviors in early adulthood?
CONCLUSION: Adolescents with escalating and persistent high RWI/DWI may continue these health risking behaviors into their mid-twenties. Decliners during the transition maintained low RWI/DWI into their mid-twenties. Taken together, these findings suggest that earlier reduction may have long-term effects. Our findings can be used to inform the precision tailoring of prevention efforts aimed at effectively reducing alcohol/drug impairment crash injuries and related deaths among those in early adulthood.PMID:37729749 | DOI:10.1016/j.aap.2023.107304

Macrophage-expressed SRA ameliorates alcohol-induced liver injury by suppressing S-glutathionylation of Notch1 via recruiting Thioredoxin
J Leukoc Biol. 2023 Sep 19:qiad110. doi: 10.1093/jleuko/qiad110. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTScavenger receptor A (SRA) is preferentially expressed in macrophages and implicated as a multifunctional pattern recognition receptor for innate immunity. Hepatic macrophages play a primary role in the pathogenesis of alcoholic liver disease (ALD). Herein, we observed that SRA expression was significantly increased in the liver tissues of mice with alcohol-related liver injury. SRA-deficient (SRA-/-) mice developed more severe alcohol-induced liver disease than wild-type (WT) mice. Enhanced liver inflammation existed in alcohol-...
