Insomnia Burden among Informal Caregivers of Hospitalized Lung Cancer Patients and Its Influencing Factors
CONCLUSION: Of the hospitalized patients with lung cancer, 51.9% experienced insomnia. Patients' ADL, ICs gender, alcohol consumption, underlying medical conditions, caregiving duration, and monthly expenses were influencing factors. Therefore, prompt screening and early intervention for ICs of patients with lung cancer is necessary.PMID:37711083 | DOI:10.3967/bes2023.099

Delivery of telehealth nutrition and physical activity interventions to adults living in rural areas: a scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: Despite differences in intervention characteristics, the number of randomised control trials published suggests sufficient scope for future systematic reviews to determine intervention effectiveness related to nutrition and physical activity telehealth interventions for rural populations.TRIAL REGISTRATION: The scoping review protocol was not pre-registered.PMID:37715234 | PMC:PMC10504780 | DOI:10.1186/s12966-023-01505-2

Dissecting the role of cadmium, lead, arsenic, and mercury in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis
The objective of the present study was to review the existing epidemiological and laboratory findings supporting the role of toxic metal exposure in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The existing epidemiological studies demonstrate that cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), arsenic (As), and mercury (Hg) exposure was associated both with an increased risk of NAFLD and altered biochemical markers of liver injury. Laboratory studies demonstrated that metal exposure induces hepatic lipid accumulation resulting from activation of lipogenesis and inhibition of fatty acid β-oxidation due to up-regulation of sterol regulatory elemen...

Enhanced mechanical and functional properties of chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol/hydroxypropyl methylcellulose/alizarin composite film by incorporating cinnamon essential oil and tea polyphenols
In this study, cinnamon essential oil and tea polyphenols were added to chitosan/ polyvinyl alcohol/ hydroxypropyl methylcellulose/ alizarin composite films to enhance their mechanical and functional properties. Their addition to the composite films enhanced their antibacterial and antioxidant properties and significantly improved its elongation at break (p < 0.05). Cinnamon essential oil reduced the water vapor permeability, water content, and water solubility of composite films and improved their transparency. The composite films with additive exhibited excellent UV-barrier ability and pH responsivity. Fourier Transfo...

Cortical paired associative stimulation shows impaired plasticity of inhibition networks as a function of chronic alcohol use
CONCLUSION: In line with previous findings, cPAS improved response inhibition in healthy adults by strengthening the fronto-striatal network through putative long-term potentiation-like plasticity mechanisms. Furthermore, we identified a possible marker of impaired cortical excitability, and, thus, diminished capacity for cPAS-induced neuroplasticity in AUD with direct implications to a disorder-relevant cognitive process.PMID:37712403 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291723002374
