Inpatient Beta-lactam test-dose Protocol promotes Antimicrobial Stewardship in Patients with History of Penicillin Allergy.
CONCLUSION: The antibiotic choice in patients admitted to the hospital with a reported penicillin allergy can be improved by better evaluation of the allergy history and the use of a risk stratification guideline. PMID: 30465860 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Mugwort Pollen-Related Food Allergy: Lipid Transfer Protein Sensitization and Correlation With the Severity of Allergic Reactions in a Chinese Population.
CONCLUSIONS: LTPs are major food allergens for mugwort pollen-related food allergy in China, and may contribute to SR. PMID: 30479082 [PubMed]

Molecular Allergy Diagnostics as an Adjunct to Conventional Diagnostics in a Secondary Pediatric Referral Center.
CONCLUSIONS: Most patients in a secondary pediatric referral center with suspected IgE mediated allergy can be managed by conventional diagnostic methods. MA diagnostics may be useful in small and selected subgroups as in patients with suspected peanut allergy, however, may not be helpful in all cases. PMID: 31187717 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

House dust mite allergy and shrimp allergy: a complex interaction.
Conclusions. Shrimp allergy seems to occur uniquely in association with hypersensitivity to HDM allergens and tropomyosin is the main shrimp allergen but not a major one, at least in Italy. Along with tropomyosin-specific IgE levels, monosensitization to HDM seems to represent a risk factor for the development of shrimp allergy among HDM allergic patients. Skin tests and challenge-based drug allergy diagnosis: a retrospective study of patients with confirmed drug allergy.
Conclusions. Most drug allergy diagnoses were based on multistep DCT. The identified predictors of DCT interruption during up-dosing can support the development of more personalized DCTs protocols. PMID: 31594290 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The 100 Top-cited Articles in Main Allergy Journals: A Bibliometric Analysis.
The objective of this study was to identify the characteristics of the top 100 cited studies in main allergy journals. The 100 top-cited studies in allergy journals from the Web of Science were enrolled. The key characteristics included citation, year, authors, country, institution and journal were analyzed. The number of citations of the 100 top-cited studies ranged from 409 to 2313. They were published between 1972 and 2014. Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology published the largest number of top-cited studies (n=74), followed by Allergy (n=13) and Clinical and Experimental Allergy (n=9). The greatest number of stu...

Mammalian Meat Allergy Accompanied by Venom Allergy: A Review of 12 Cases.
In this study, we have emphasized that  Ixodes ricinus named tick type which is implicated in meat allergy, is found in domestic animals of Black Sea Region of Turkey. A new concept has been recently raized; suggesting that having an alpha-gal allergy is associated with an increased risk of sensitization to multiple venom spesific immunoglobulin (Ig) E. Our aim is to evaluate the clinical characteristics of adult patients with MMA and its relationship with insect sting reactions in Turkey. Patients referring to the allergy outpatient clinic with possible MMA were interviewed regarding reactions to a stinging insect. Demog...

Basophil Activation Test Based on CD203c Expression in the Diagnosis of Fish Allergy.
CONCLUSIONS: The BAT score based on CD203c expression may be useful for fish allergy diagnosis, especially since a large variety of fish can be tested by the BAT using fish extracts prepared by a simple method. PMID: 32400130 [PubMed]

The psychological impact of food allergy and undergoing a food challenge test in adult age.
Conclusions. People who have a food allergy excluded following a food challenge have better HRQoL. There was a significant improvement in HRQoL following an open food challenge which supports the need to increase provision of food challenge testing in this age group. Is It Drug or Food Allergy? A Case Report.
We present the case of a 37-year-old female patient with cutaneous allergic reaction initially diagnosed as drug allergy to desloratadine/aerius, a desloratadine-containing antihistamine medication. The diagnostic search began with the anamnestic data of the patient about an allergy to cooked corn in her childhood, current seasonal allergic rhinitis, and hand dermatitis probably related to her professional activity. Skin tests and additional laboratory examinations led to diagnosing corn/maize allergy manifested as both food (mainly) and pollen allergy. Besides, it was concluded that hand dermatitis also can becaused by co...

Mold allergens in respiratory allergy: from structure to therapy.
Authors: Twaroch TE, Curin M, Valenta R, Swoboda I Abstract Allergic reactions to fungi were described 300 years ago, but the importance of allergy to fungi has been underestimated for a long time. Allergens from fungi mainly cause respiratory and skin symptoms in sensitized patients. In this review, we will focus on fungi and fungal allergens involved in respiratory forms of allergy, such as allergic rhinitis and asthma. Fungi can act as indoor and outdoor respiratory allergen sources, and depending on climate conditions, the rates of sensitization in individuals attending allergy clinics range from 5% to 20%. Due...
