Clinical Use Of Biologics For Asthma Treatment By Allergy Specialists: A Questionnaire Survey.
CONCLUSION: This represents the largest survey of allergy specialists, about real-world use of asthma biologics. It appears there has been reasonably good dissemination and application of current guidelines among allergists based on prescribing patterns. However, there responses demonstrate the need for the continued modification of asthma guidelines that incorporate novel biologics and other pathway-specific agents into step therapy. As clinical phenotypes and predictive biomarkers develop, allergy specialists will be better prepared to practice precision medicine that optimizes use of asthma biologics. PMID: 3262901...

The Origins of Allergy from a Systems Approach.
CONCLUSION: Understanding the spectrum of allergy as a systems disease will allow us to better define the mechanisms of allergic disorders and improve their treatment. PMID: 32702411 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The Use of Microarray and Other Multiplex Technologies in the Diagnosis of Allergy.
CONCLUSION: IgE microarray assays are already a valuable tool in research applications. These assays, and also other forms of IgE multiplex assays, are likely to play an important role in the clinical practice of allergy in the future. Additional studies focused on clinical outcomes and development of more targeted allergen panels could facilitate increased clinical use. PMID: 33450398 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Safe administration of the seasonal trivalent influenza vaccine to children with severe egg allergy.
CONCLUSION: TIV administration is safe even in children with histories of severe egg allergy. Use of 2-step split dosing appears unnecessary because a single dose was well tolerated. PMID: 23176882 [PubMed - in process]

Factors that predict the clinical reactivity and tolerance in children with cow's milk allergy.
CONCLUSION: The decision points of sIgE obtained in different age groups may help to determine the likelihood of clinical reactivity more precisely. The results suggest that sIgE levels and STAT6 gene variants may be important determinants to predict longer persistence of CMA. PMID: 23535094 [PubMed - in process]

Sensitization to Cor a 9 and Cor a 14 is highly specific for a hazelnut allergy with objective symptoms in Dutch children and adults
Conclusion: Sensitization to Cor a 9 and Cor a 14 is highly specific for patients with objective symptoms in DBPCFCs as a marker for a more severe hazelnut allergic phenotype.

Clinical predictors for favorable outcomes in an oral immunotherapy program for IgE-mediated cow's milk allergy.
CONCLUSION: Milk oral immunotherapy, carried out in a highly controlled setting, is successful in protecting the overwhelming majority of patients from accidental exposures to cow's milk protein. PMID: 24331395 [PubMed - in process]

Food allergy: Epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment
This review focuses on advances and updates in the epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of food allergy over the past 3 years since our last comprehensive review. On the basis of numerous studies, food allergy likely affects nearly 5% of adults and 8% of children, with growing evidence of an increase in prevalence. Potentially rectifiable risk factors include vitamin D insufficiency, unhealthful dietary fat, obesity, increased hygiene, and the timing of exposure to foods, but genetics and other lifestyle issues play a role as well. Interesting clinical insights into pathogenesis include discoveries regardin...

Concomitant sensitization to ragweed and mugwort pollen: who is who in clinical allergy?
CONCLUSION: This study found that Art v 6 plays an important role in mugwort allergy and that the cross-reactivity between Art v 6 and Amb a 1 is frequent, bidirectional, and clinically relevant in the area of Milan. PMID: 25053399 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Relation between eosinophilic esophagitis and oral immunotherapy for food allergy: a systematic review with meta-analysis.
CONCLUSION: New onset of EoE after OIT occurs in up to 2.7% of patients with IgE-mediated food allergy undergoing this treatment strategy. The limited data on the utility of allergen immunotherapy as a therapy for EoE prevent a recommendation for this treatment option. PMID: 25216976 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Intradermal Tests for Diagnosis of Drug Allergy are not Affected by a Topical Anesthetic Patch.
Authors: Couto M, Silva D, Ferreira A, Cernadas JR Abstract The use of topical anesthesia to perform intradermal tests (IDTs) for drug allergy diagnosis was never investigated. We aimed to determine the effects of a topical anesthetic patch containing prilocaine-lidocaine on wheal size of IDT with drugs. Patients who had positive IDT as part of their investigation process of suspected drug hypersensitivity were selected. IDT were performed according to guidelines. Anesthetic patch (AP) was placed and the same prior positive IDT, as well as positive histamine skin prick test (SPT) and negative (saline IDT) controls,...

Peanut allergy is common amongst hazelnut sensitized subjects but is not primarily the result of IgE cross‐reactivity
ConclusionsPeanut allergy is not primarily the result of IgE cross‐reactivity to hazelnut storage proteins. IgE to Cor a 14 and Ara h 2 may serve as useful markers of primary sensitization to hazelnut and peanut, respectively. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
