Design of a multi-epitopic vaccine against Epstein-Barr virus via computer-based methods
ConclusionOur results demonstrated that the multi-epitope vaccine might be potentially immunogenic and induce humoral and cellular immune responses against EBV. This vaccine can interact appropriately with immunological receptors Also, it has a high-quality structure and suitable characteristics such as high stability. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)

Unraveling cross-reactivity of anti-glycan IgG responses in filarial nematode infections
Parasitic nematodes responsible for filarial diseases cause chronic disablement in humans worldwide. Elimination programs have substantially reduced the rate of infection in certain areas, but limitations of current diagnostics for population surveillance have been pointed out and improved assays are needed to reach the elimination targets. While serological tests detecting antibodies to parasite antigens are convenient tools, those currently available are compromised by the occurrence of antibodies cross-reactive between nematodes, as well as by the presence of residual antibodies in sera years after treatment and clearan...

Global Health Impact: A Model to Alleviate the Burden and Expand Access to Treatment of Neglected Tropical Diseases
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2023 Feb 27:tpmd210583. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.21-0583. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNeglected tropical diseases (NTDs) receive relatively little research and development but have a tremendous impact on lifespan and livelihood. Here, we use existing data on the need for drugs, their efficacy, and their treatment percentages to estimate the impacts of various regimens on the global burden of several NTDs: schistosomiasis, onchocerciasis, lymphatic filariasis, and three soil-transmitted helminths (STHs) over time. PBPK modeling of ivermectin ‐ considerations for the purpose of developing alternative routes to optimize its safety profile
AbstractAlthough single-dose ivermectin has been widely used in mass-drug administration (MDA) programs for onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis for many years, ivermectin may have utility as an endectocide with mosquito-lethal effects at dosages greater and longer than those used to treat helminths. The final PBPK model for ivermectin described here was able to capture, with reasonable accuracy, observed plasma drug concentration-time profiles and exposures of ivermectin after a single oral dose of the drug in healthy male (dose range 6 to 30 mg) and female subjects, in both fasted and fed states, in African patients w...

Ivermectin systemic availability in adult volunteers treated with different oral pharmaceutical formulations
CONCLUSION: Beneficial effects against systemically located parasitic infections as well as in any other potential therapeutic field of IVM application would be expected from its use in the form of oral solution. This pharmacokinetic-based therapeutic advantage without the risk of excessive accumulation needs to be corroborated in clinical trials specifically designed for each purpose.PMID:36804122 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2023.114391 (Source: Biomedicine and pharmacotherapy = Biomedecine and pharmacotherapie)
