Recurrence, Microevolution, and Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Legionella pneumophila Sequence Type 1905, Portugal, 2014-2022
Emerg Infect Dis. 2024 May;30(5):1022-1025. doi: 10.3201/eid3005.231383.ABSTRACTWe investigated molecular evolution and spatiotemporal dynamics of atypical Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 sequence type 1905 and determined its long-term persistence and linkage to human disease in dispersed locations, far beyond the large 2014 outbreak epicenter in Portugal. Our finding highlights the need for public health interventions to prevent further disease spread.PMID:38666647 | DOI:10.3201/eid3005.231383 (Source: Emerging Infectious Diseases)

Contact tracing management of a measles case in a paediatric hospital: experience of the local public health unit, Portugal, January 2024
Euro Surveill. 2024 Apr;29(17). doi: 10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2024.29.17.240022.ABSTRACTIn January 2024, a child was diagnosed with measles in a paediatric hospital in Lisbon. Of 123 contacts, 39 (32%) were not fully immunised, presenting a risk for a potential outbreak. The public health unit initiated control measures and identified challenges during the response, such as the lack of interoperability between information systems and accessing vaccination records. The lessons learned prompted changes to national contact tracing procedures for measles, further strengthening Portugal's preparedness.PMID:38666402 | DOI:10.2807/15...

Transdermal Opioids and the Quality of Life of the Cancer Patient: A Systematic Literature Review
CONCLUSIONS: Transdermal therapy was suggested to have several advantages over oral opioid therapy in enhancing cancer patients' QoL. These benefits span various dimensions, including pain management, physical functioning, mental health, vitality, overall patient improvement, anger/aversion, strength/activity, general QoL, cognitive and emotional functions, fatigue, and insomnia.PMID:38659244 | DOI:10.1177/10600280241247363 (Source: The Annals of Pharmacotherapy)

European pathways of care in Alpha-1 Antitrypsin deficiency
CONCLUSIONS: European care pathways for AATD are largely uniform, but with notable heterogeneity in testing approaches and a need for education and standardisation. Familiarity with and use of ERN-LUNG AATD services is variable, and increased awareness of these services is warranted.PMID:38661678 | DOI:10.1016/j.rmed.2023.107450 (Source: Respiratory Care)

'Considering the reality, I am very lucky: how professional players and staff perceive injury prevention and performance protection in womens football
Conclusion Professional female football players face different injury risks during different moments of their careers. According to elite players and staff, amateur and semiprofessionals have limited resources and lack injury prevention strategies. Professional players and staff perceived the current preventive measures as good and relied on the value of individualised care and a multidisciplinary approach. In the future, more resources and structured injury prevention strategies are needed in youth and non-professional levels of women’s football to reduce injury risk and allow more players to reach their maximal per...
