Adherence and Persistence to Basal Insulin Among People with Type  2 Diabetes in Europe: A Systematic Literature Review and Meta-analysis
ConclusionThe results highlight that almost half of patients with T2D in Western Europe have poor adherence to insulin therapy and, at 18  months, one in three patients do not persist on treatment. These findings call for new basal insulin therapies and diabetes management strategies that can improve treatment persistence and adherence among people with T2D. (Source: Diabetes Therapy)

Inter-sexual Mate Competition in Humans: A Historical Example from Seventeenth Century Portugal
Arch Sex Behav. 2024 Mar 21. doi: 10.1007/s10508-024-02833-5. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTInter-sexual mate competition occurs any time opposite-sex individuals simultaneously seek to acquire or maintain exclusive access to the same sexual partner. This underappreciated form of mate competition has been anecdotally documented in several avian and mammalian species, and systematically described among Japanese macaques and humans. Here, we extend the concept of inter-sexual mate competition by reassessing a remarkable series of Portuguese letters, penned in 1664 and later discovered and translated by Mott and Assunção (J...

It affects a significant portion of asthmatic patients and imposes a high risk of exacerbations and mortality, which are associated with significant healthcare costs and psychosocial impact...PMID:38516875 | DOI:10.4081/monaldi.2024....

Exposure to heat wave risks across time and places: Seasonal variations and predictors of feelings of threat across heat wave geographical susceptibility locations
AbstractVulnerability to heat waves and their negative effects on health vary not only due to individual factors but also due to situational factors, such as time and geography. Hence, we explored seasonal variations and predictors of heat wave feelings of threat across different heat wave geographical susceptibility locations in Portugal. A total of 238 Portuguese residents responded to a web-based longitudinal survey: before the summer, during a heat wave in the summer, during the summer, and after the summer. Geographical location was used as an indicator of risk exposure, operationalized as heat wave occurrence suscept...
