Exposure to Smartphones and Tablets, Physical Activity and Sleep in Children From 5 to 10 Years Old: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: Children of 5 to 10 years who are more often exposed to smartphones and tablets are prone to have worse quality and quantity of sleep, as well as less practice of physical activity. Health promotion actions can be encouraged based on the results, aiming to reduce the use time of these devices and improve children's health and quality of life.PMID:38587808 | DOI:10.1177/08901171241242556 (Source: American Journal of Health Promotion : AJHP)

Characterization of the oral microbiota and the relationship of the oral microbiota with the dental and periodontal status in children and adolescents with nonsyndromic cleft lip and palate. Systematic literature review and meta-analysis
ConclusionIn the microbiota, there was a great diversity of microorganisms that can vary according to the type of fissure and surgical interventions predisposing patients to a greater probability of dental caries, it is important to take into account the technique used to describe the oral microbiota in order to be able to compare the different studies.Clinical relevanceStudying the microbiota and the relationship of dental caries and periodontal status in children and adolescents with cleft lip and palate can facilitate the comprehensive care of patients with these conditions. Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2338: Biomechanical Assessment Methods Used in Chronic Stroke: A Scoping Review of Non-Linear Approaches
gusta Silva Non-linear and dynamic systems analysis of human movement has recently become increasingly widespread with the intention of better reflecting how complexity affects the adaptability of motor systems, especially after a stroke. The main objective of this scoping review was to summarize the non-linear measures used in the analysis of kinetic, kinematic, and EMG data of human movement after stroke. PRISMA-ScR guidelines were followed, establishing the eligibility criteria, the population, the concept, and the contextual framework. The examined studies were published between 1 January 2013 and 12 April 2023, in...

Systematic Review of Impacts of Educational Interventions to Control Breeding Sites of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus Mosquitoes
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Apr 2:tpmd230427. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0427. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCommunity participation is a critical element in the management of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus breeding sites. Many educational interventions have been conducted to encourage prevention and elimination of breeding sites among different community actors, such as government-run programs for vector surveillance aimed at preventing and eliminating breeding sites at the household level within a community. Getting people involved in prevention and elimination of vector breeding sites in their communities requires communicat...

Gene editing as a therapeutic strategy for spinocerebellar ataxia type-3
Rev Neurol (Paris). 2024 Apr 4:S0035-3787(24)00478-8. doi: 10.1016/j.neurol.2024.03.003. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSpinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3), also known as Machado-Joseph disease, is a neurodegenerative disease caused by expanded polyglutamine repeats in exon 10 of the ataxin-3 gene, ATXN3. The accumulation of mutant ATXN3 protein leads to severe clinical manifestations and premature death. Clinically, SCA3 pathology is characterized by progressive ataxia leading to motor incoordination that may affect balance, gait and speech, and neuropathologically by a progressive degeneration of the spinal cord and cere...

Barriers and facilitators of the reporting by family doctors of cases of domestic violence - a qualitative study across Portugal
CONCLUSIONS: Family doctors encounter multiple barriers and facilitators when considering reporting a DV case to the authorities. The results of this study can help develop new interventions to address the barriers described by the doctors, increasing their compliance with mandatory reporting, the protection of victims and the just persecution of the aggressor.PMID:38580901 | PMC:PMC10996166 | DOI:10.1186/s12875-024-02329-0 (Source: Primary Care)
