Interaction of polymers with bile salts - Impact on solubilisation and absorption of poorly water-soluble drugs
In this study, we examined the possible occurrence of interactions between a model bile salt, sodium taurocholate (NaTC), and model spray dried solid dispersions comprising piroxicam and Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC), a commonly used hydrophilic polymer for solid dispersion preparation. Solubility measurements revealed the good solubilisation effect of NaTC on the crystalline drug, which was enhanced by the addition of HPMC, and further boosted by the drug formulation into solid dispersion. The colloidal behaviour of the solid dispersions upon dissolution in biorelevant media, with and without NaTC, revealed the for...

A multiple-session mesotherapy protocol for the management of hip osteoarthritis in police working dogs
Am J Vet Res. 2022 Nov 16:1-8. doi: 10.2460/ajvr.22.08.0132. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: To describe the effect of a mesotherapy protocol in dogs with osteoarthritis.ANIMALS: 30 dogs.PROCEDURES: Dogs were randomly assigned to a control (CG; n = 10) or a mesotherapy group (MG; 20). CG received meloxicam for 70 days. MG was treated with a combination of lidocaine, piroxicam, and thiocolchicoside, injected in intradermal points. Seven treatment sessions were conducted. Response to treatment was measured with different instruments: the Canine Brief Pain Inventory (divided into Pain Interference Score [PIS] and Pai...

A nanoporous gold film sensor modified with polypyrrole/CuO nanocomposite for electrochemical determination of piroxicam and tramadole
Environ Res. 2022 Nov 4:114633. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2022.114633. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn this paper, an electrochemical sensor was developed to determine piroxicam (PX) and tramadole (Tr) based on their enhanced electrochemical responses at the surface of the polypyrrole/CuO nanocomposite-modified nanoporous gold film (NPGF) electrode. The experimental results showed that PX provide an oxidation peak at 0.65 V in pH = 8.0. The DPV results were linearly affiliated on PX concentration within the two closed windows (C1PX = 0.05-30.0 μM, correlation coefficient of 0.9905, and C2PX = 50.0-300.0 μM, correlation coef...
