Drug-drug interaction assessment based on a large-scale spontaneous reporting system for hepato- and renal-toxicity, and thrombocytopenia with concomitant low-dose methotrexate and analgesics use
CONCLUSIONS: Studies using spontaneous reporting systems have limitations such as reporting bias or lack of patient background; however, the results of our comprehensive analysis support the results of previous clinical or epidemiological studies. This study also demonstrated the usefulness of FAERS for DDI assessment.PMID:38303016 | PMC:PMC10832291 | DOI:10.1186/s40360-024-00738-6 (Source: BMC Pharmacology and Toxicology)

Evaluation of the antimicrobial efficacy of different nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs alone or in combination with calcium hydroxide intracanal medicament: an in vitro study
This study explored the antimicrobial effects of ketoprofen, piroxicam, and celecoxib alone or combined with calcium hydroxide (CH) against two strains ofEnterococcus faecalis (E. faecalis) and assessed the influence of such combinations on the pH of CH. Minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of the three tested NSAIDs were determined. Tested pastes were placed into wells punched in seeded agar plates and the bacterial inhibition zones were measured. Antibiofilm activity was assessed against 3 weeks of biofilm induced in bovine dentine blocks. The pH of the pastes was measured at four-time intervals. MIC values were 3.12...

Mechanistic evaluation of antiarthritic and anti-inflammatory effect of campesterol ester derivatives in complete Freund ’s adjuvant-induced arthritic rats
Conclusion: CED demonstrated promising therapeutic potential as an anti-inflammatory intervention for arthritis in the experimental rat model. Its ability to reduce inflammation, protect tissues, and improve organ function indicates its multifaceted benefits. (Source: Frontiers in Pharmacology)

Preparation of Piroxicam nanosuspensions by high pressure homogenization and evaluation of improved bioavailability
CONCLUSIONS: The results in this study indicate that PRX nanosuspension is a promising nanomedicine for enhancing the anti-inflammatory activity of PRX and has a high potential for the treatment of inflammation.PMID:38087641 | DOI:10.1080/03639045.2023.2256856 (Source: Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy)

Assessment of antiarthritic potential of Asparagus dumosus using formaldehyde and CFA-induced arthritic models in rats via modulation of oxidative stress biomarkers and mRNA expression of IL-1b, IL-6, RANKL, OPG, TNF- α and COX-2
This study was aimed to explore the antiarthritic potential ofA. dumosus in formaldehyde and complete Freund ’s adjuvant (CFA)-induced arthritic rats. Body weight, arthritic index, hepatic oxidative stress, hematological, biochemical and inflammatory markers were assessed using ELISA, whilst qRT-PCR studies were carried out for the mRNA expression of IL-1b, IL-6, RANKL, OPG, TNF-α and COX-2 genes. GCMS and HPLC analysis were performed to identify the secondary metabolites ofA. dumosus. From day 8 to 28 post-administration of formaldehyde and CFA, oral administration ofA. dumosus (600, 300 and 150  mg/kg) showed a notew...
