Hemolytic anemia in a two-year-old child: A case of multiple red blood cell abnormalities
Ann Biol Clin (Paris). 2023 Nov 29;81(5). doi: 10.1684/abc.2023.1843. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe discovery of hemolytic anemia requires a meticulous investigation to determine its etiology. Among patients of African origin, it is not uncommon to find multiple constitutional red blood cell abnormalities, which can complicate diagnosis. We herein describe the case of a two-year-old child presenting with acute hemolytic anemia. A G6PD deficiency, hereditary spherocytosis, and a sickle cell trait A/S were simultaneously identified, all within the context of a primary infection with Parvovirus B19. This virus commonly tr...

Use of Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing in the Identification of Pneumocystis Jiroveci Pneumonia in a Previously Healthy Infant Diagnosed With X-Linked Hyper-IgM Syndrome
This case describes a four-month-old male who was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit for acute respiratory failure in the setting of a co-infection requiring increased ventilatory support. Immunodeficiency workup demonstrated poor vaccination response and low immunoglobulin titers. mNGS via Karius ® test was positive for Pneumocystis jiroveci (PJP), Parvovirus, and Bocavirus. The patient was successfully treated with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and prednisone. Genetic workup via Invitae panel confirmed that the patient had X-linked Hyper-IgM Syndrome. Integration of Planova filters in manufacturing processes of biologicals improve the virus safety effectively: A review of publicly available data
In conclusion, the incorporation of Planova filters in manufacturing processes of biologicals remove, depending on the filter pore size, small and large viruses from the feed stream reliably. This virus reduction step with an orthogonal mechanism integrated in the manufacturing processes of biologicals, based primarily on size exclusion of viruses, improves the virus safety of these biopharmaceutical products considerably. Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 2261: An Outbreak of Parvovirus B19 in Israel
This study demonstrates that Israel is currently experiencing the largest and longest reported outbreak of B19V to date. Policymakers should consider setting screening policies in place, at least for populations at risk, while specifically studying and potentially targeting low socioeconomic populations and specific social sectors to avoid health inequalities. Investigation of Parvovirus B19, Cytomegalovirus, Herpes Simplex Virus Types 1 and 2, Human Papillomavirus Types 16 and 18 in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma
CONCLUSION: Correlations among HSV, CMV, and PTC are unexpected in our patient population. But parvovirus B19 and, to a lesser extent, HPV DNA genomes were detected in PTC using real-time PCR.PMID:37942204 | PMC:PMC10628384 | DOI:10.30699/IJP.2023.1982745.3032 (Source: Herpes)

Assessing vaccine hesitancy and support for vaccination requirements for pets and potential Spillovers from humans
CONCLUSION: The high correlation between pet and human measures raises the stake for public health efforts to improve attitudes about vaccines and vaccination rates across the board. Strong support for vaccination requirements should encourage policymakers to explore policy change. Moreover, veterinarians and their associations should consider expanding the number of core vaccinations.PMID:37935596 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.10.061 (Source: Vaccine)

Protoparvovirus carnivoran 1 infection of golden jackals Canis aureus in Serbia
AbstractParvoviruses are among the major animal pathogens that can cause considerable health disorders ranging from subclinical to lethal in domestic and wild animals. Golden jackal (Canis aureus), an expanding European species, is a reservoir of many pathogens, including vector-borne diseases and zoonoses. Given the importance of parvovirus infections in dogs and cats, this study aimed to unfold the virus prevalence and molecular characterisation in the golden jackal population in Serbia. The spleen samples from 68 hunted jackals during 2022/2023 were tested for the VP2-specific genome region of Protoparvovirus carnivoran...
