Cell-based homologous expression system for < em > in-vitro < /em > characterization of environmental effects on transmembrane peptide transport in fish
Curr Res Physiol. 2024 Jan 5;7:100118. doi: 10.1016/j.crphys.2024.100118. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTAll organisms encounter environmental changes that lead to physiological adjustments that could drive evolutionary adaptations. The ability to adjust performance in order to cope with environmental changes depends on the organism's physiological plasticity. These adjustments can be reflected in behavioral, physiological, and molecular changes, which interact and affect each other. Deciphering the role of molecular adjustments in physiological changes will help to understand how multiple levels of biological organization are s...

Exploring the < em > ex  vivo < /em > effects of < em > Naja mossambica < /em > venom on the ultrastructure and viscoelastic properties of human blood
CONCLUSION: These findings may offer insights into the species-specific effects of snake venom on human blood and add value to the clinical workup in confirming envenomation. Further research is needed to correlate the 20 minute whole blood clotting test with measurable values from the thromboelastography within the context of snake envenomation. This may offer a bridge between cost, early diagnosis, and treatment of snake envenomation in resource-constrained countries.PMID:38292349 | PMC:PMC10826811 | DOI:10.1016/j.rpth.2023.102294 (Source: Thrombosis and Haemostasis)

Improving the Quality and Use of Malaria Surveillance Data: Results from Evaluating an Integrated Malaria Information Storage System at the Health Facility Level in Selected Districts in Mozambique
Am J Trop Med Hyg. 2024 Jan 23:tpmd230138. doi: 10.4269/ajtmh.23-0138. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMozambique addressed critical malaria surveillance system challenges by rolling out an integrated malaria information storage system (iMISS) at the district level in February 2021. The iMISS integrates malaria data from existing systems across thematic program areas to improve data availability and use. In seven districts, the platform was extended to health facilities (HFs), allowing HFs to access iMISS and use tablets to submit monthly malaria reports to a central database, eliminating the need for paper-based reporting t...

ADHD in Mozambique: An epidemiological investigation in a Primary School Sample
CONCLUSION: Our findings demonstrated that ADHD is a prevalent mental disorder in Mozambique, and it is associated with similar comorbid profiles, predisposing factors, and negative outcomes as in other cultures.PMID:38243805 | DOI:10.47626/1516-4446-2023-3343 (Source: Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria)

Simple techniques for a complex problem: sampling malaria vectors in Africa
Acta Trop. 2024 Jan 5:107104. doi: 10.1016/j.actatropica.2023.107104. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDisease surveillance, including entomological surveillance, serves as the basis for all vector control program activities. How to do this in the most ecologically sensible way, so that the most suitable, naturalistic method, of control for that population can be identified, should be a priority. Here we describe a set of techniques, whose only energy requirement is a torch (flashlight), that can be used to collect both endo and exophagic and endo and exophilic malaria vectors. The data obtained over a number of years from an...
