Perspectives of healthcare and social support sector policymakers on potential solutions to mitigate financial impact among people with TB in Mozambique: a qualitative study
Conclusion Despite health and social sector policymakers reporting a willingness for intersectoral collaboration to mitigate TB-related financial impact, current approaches were perceived to be unilateral. Collaboration between health and social support sectors should focus on improving existing social support programmes. (Source: BMJ Open)

Novelty and phylogenetic relationships within the serendipeidae (cestoda: "tetraphyllidea")
J Parasitol. 2023 Aug 1;109(4):423-435. doi: 10.1645/22-124.ABSTRACTNanoduplicibothrium n. gen. is erected for the subgroup containing the smallest members of the "tetraphyllidean" family Serendipeidae with bothridia fused lengthwise in 2 pairs that lack both a distinct row of posterior loculi and a cephalic peduncle. Two new species in this genus are described. These are Nanoduplicibothrium leanneae n. gen. n. sp. from Rhinoptera bonasus off South Carolina and Nanoduplicibothrium megaphallum n. sp. from Rhinoptera jayakari off Mozambique. Two species currently assigned to Duplicibothrium are transferred to the new genus a...

Physical Abuse Perpetrated by In-laws: An Analysis of Nationally Representative Survey Data from 47 Low- and Middle-income Countries
ConclusionViolence by in-laws affects both men and women in varying degrees across different countries. The data indicate that it is possible for one individual to experience violence perpetrated by more than one extended family member. Given the paucity of research in this area, it is hoped that the results may stimulate further inquiry into relevant contextual and social variables which influence in-law violence. Burden and risk factors of snakebite in Mopeia, Mozambique: Leveraging larger malaria trials to generate data of this neglected tropical disease
ConclusionsThis study exposes higher than expected incidence and burden of snakebite in rural Mozambique. Whilst snakebite elimination in Mozambique seems unattainable today, it remains a preventable disease with manageable sequelae. We have shown that snakebite research is particularly easy to nest in larger studies, making this a practical and cost-effective way of estimating its incidence. Early marriage and adolescent pregnancy in Mozambique
Afr J Reprod Health. 2022 Mar;26(3):114-123. doi: 10.29063/ajrh2022/v26i3.13.ABSTRACTEarly marriage and adolescent pregnancies are prevailing phenomena in Mozambique, with 48% and 40% of girls aged 20-24 marrying and getting pregnant before the age of 18. Using a cross-sectional survey in Maganja da Costa and Morrumbala districts, Zambézia Province, and descriptive and inferential statistics for data analysis, the study revealed that around 65% of adolescent became pregnant at the age of 15-17. Among these adolescent, 18.8% had their first baby before turning 15 and 99.2% before their 18th birthday. Of the respondents, 23...

Exploring genetic variability of Giardia duodenalis and Enterocytozoon bieneusi in raw vegetables and fruits: implications for food safety and public health in Mozambique
This study aims to assess the genetic pattern of G. duodenalis and E. bieneusi detected in vegetables and fruits commercialized in Maputo markets, Mozambique and determine their public health importance. Eight study points were sampled: a farmer zone, a wholesale, four retail markets, and two supermarkets in Maputo city, where eight types of horticultural products were purchased. Using nested-PCR methods, 2.8% (9/321) and 1.3% (4/321) of samples monitored were positive for G. duodenalis and E. bieneusi, respectively. Based on the analysis of the β-giardin and ITS rRNA sequences of G. duodenalis and E. bieneusi detected, r...

Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 6729: A Light-Weight Cropland Mapping Model Using Satellite Imagery
Tarig Ali Many applications in agriculture as well as other related fields including natural resources, environment, health, and sustainability, depend on recent and reliable cropland maps. Cropland extent and intensity plays a critical input variable for the study of crop production and food security around the world. However, generating such variables manually is difficult, expensive, and time consuming. In this work, we discuss a cost effective, fast, and simple machine-learning-based approach to provide reliable cropland mapping model using satellite imagery. The study includes four test regions, namely Iran, Moz...

Prevalence of Adverse Childhood Experiences in sub-Saharan Africa: A multicounty analysis of the Violence Against Children and Youth Surveys (VACS)
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that majority of the children in countries in sub-Saharan Africa have experienced multiple ACEs in their lifetime. Understanding the extent of the problem will help design early interventions to reduce childhood exposure to ACEs or mitigate against the harmful impact of ACEs.PMID:37482505 | DOI:10.1016/j.chiabu.2023.106353 (Source: Child Abuse and Neglect)
