Preparation and optimization of agarose or polyacrylamide/amino acid-based double network hydrogels for photocontrolled drug release
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 Nov 7:127919. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.127919. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe high water content and biocompatibility of amino-acid-based supramolecular hydrogels have generated growing interest in drug delivery research. Nevertheless, the existing dominant approach of constructing such hydrogels, the exploitation of a single amino acid type, typically comes with several drawbacks such as weak mechanical properties and long gelation times, hindering their applications. Here, we design a near-infrared (NIR) light-responsive double network (DN) structure, containing amino acids and different ...

Central composite design approach for concurrent desulfurization and denitrogenation of model liquid fuel over Mo ‐AAC
AbstractThe primary objective of this work was to investigate the simultaneous removal of refractory sulfur (dibenzothiophene, DBT) and nitrogen compounds (indole, IND) from model gasoline. This research aimed to develop an efficient adsorption process to mitigate the emission of sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxides, which pose direct threats to human health and the environment. Additionally, the study focused on addressing technical challenges encountered in the refinery process, particularly the poisoning of catalysts due to the presence of these compounds. To achieve the study's goals, granular activated carbon (GAC) was su...

2D Nano ‐Channeled Molybdenum Compounds for Accelerating Interfacial Polysulfides Catalysis in Li–S Battery
A new type of 2D nano-channeled molybdenum compounds (2D-MoNx) for accelerating interfacial polysulfide catalysis toward high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries is disclosed. The unique nano-channel and interlinked interface can confine the dissolution of polysulfides, increase the contact surface with polysulfides, and promote ion diffusion, therefore resulting in the optimization of sulfur redox chemistry and elimination of shuttle effect for lithium-sulfur  batteries. AbstractThe shuttle effect, which causes the loss of active sulfur, passivation of lithium anode, and leads to severe capacity attenuation, is currentl...

Mo ‐Doped Mesoporous RuO2 Spheres as High‐Performance Acidic Oxygen Evolution Reaction Electrocatalyst
Mo-doped mesoporous RuO2 spheres (Mo-RuO2) are prepared by a facile impregnation and post-calcination method using mesoporous carbon spheres as the mesostructured templates. The unique mesoporous spherical structure and Mo element doping with appropriate content endow the optimal catalyst Mo0.15-RuO2 with an ultralow overpotential of 147  mV at 10 mA cm−2 in acidic electrolyte. AbstractThe development of highly active and acid-stable electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is of great significance for water electrolysis technology. Herein, a highly efficient molybdenum-doped mesoporous ruthenium dioxide s...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 7456: Advancing Our Understanding of Pyranopterin-Dithiolene Contributions to Moco Enzyme Catalysis
irk The pyranopterin dithiolene ligand is remarkable in terms of its geometric and electronic structure and is uniquely found in mononuclear molybdenum and tungsten enzymes. The pyranopterin dithiolene is found coordinated to the metal ion, deeply buried within the protein, and non-covalently attached to the protein via an extensive hydrogen bonding network that is enzyme-specific. However, the function of pyranopterin dithiolene in enzymatic catalysis has been difficult to determine. This focused account aims to provide an overview of what has been learned from the study of pyranopterin dithiolene model complexes of m...

Association of urinary arsenic, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and metals with cancers among the female population in the US
CONCLUSION: This study determined breast cancer and arsenic and some metal species exposure, indicating an inverse association. Arsenic acid and arsenobetaine exposure showed a positive correlation with cervical cancer. For uterine cancer, the correlations for the PAH compounds and cobalt showed a positive correlation, and the arsenic species and mercury were inversely associated. Further research is required to establish or refute the findings.PMID:37931756 | DOI:10.1016/j.taap.2023.116746 (Source: Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology)
