A New Molybdenum Blue Structure Type: How Uranium Expands This Family of Polyoxometalates
Chemistry. 2024 Feb 27:e202400678. doi: 10.1002/chem.202400678. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe assembly of molybdenum polyoxometalates (POMs) has afforded large discrete nanoclusters with varied degrees of reduction such as the ~20% reduced molybdenum blues. While many heterometals have been incorporated into these clusters to afford new properties, uranium has yet to be reported. Here we report the first uranium containing molybdenum blue clusters and the unique properties exhibited by this incorporation. The uranyl ion (UO22+) directs formation of Mo72U8, a square POM comprised of two faces connected by eight edge-sha...

Covalently ‐Bonded Laminar Assembly of Van der Waals Semiconductors with Polymers: Toward High‐Performance Flexible Devices
This study employs gold-chalcogen bonding and mercapto silane bridges to reduce sliding and wrinkling issues. The improved fabrication workflow addresses soft lithography challenges to enhance the reliability of flexible microelectronics, making them more practical for applications in biomedical, environmental, and consumer electronics. AbstractVan der Waals semiconductors (vdWS) offer superior mechanical and electrical properties and are promising for flexible microelectronics when combined with polymer substrates. However, the self-passivated vdWS surfaces and their weak adhesion to polymers tend to cause interfacial sli...

Investigation of cell-accelerated corrosion (CAC) on the CoCrMo alloy with segregation banding: Hip implant applications
J Mech Behav Biomed Mater. 2024 Jan 30;152:106449. doi: 10.1016/j.jmbbm.2024.106449. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetal alloy microstructure plays a crucial role in corrosion associated with total hip replacement (THR). THR is a prominent strategy that uses metal implants such as cobalt-chromium-molybdenum (CoCrMo) alloys due to their advantageous biological and mechanical properties. Despite all benefits, these implants undergo corrosion and wear processes in-vivo in a synergistic manner called tribocorrosion. Also, the implant retrieval findings reported that fretting corrosion occurred in-vivo, evidenced by the damage ...

ChemSusChem. 2024 Feb 21:e202301922. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202301922. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDeposition of metal nanoparticles onto the molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets is an efficient method to tune the electronic structure of the MoS2 and maximize its catalytic performance towards the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, we report the electrodeposition of Pd and Pt nanoparticles onto desulfurized MoS2 nanosheets (MoS2-x) to achieve an improved HER activity in an acidic electrolyte. The initial MoS2 powder was exfoliated and isolated through centrifugation, followed by electrochemical desulfurization to cre...

Phase ‐Transition of Mo2C Induced by Tungsten Doping as Heterointerface‐Rich Electrocatalyst for Optimizing Hydrogen Evolution Activity
Multiphase heterointerfaces are easily formed through a phase transition from β-Mo2C to δ-Mo2C, which is induced by tungsten doping using the electron injection method. The generated electron accumulation around Mo active sites can weaken the strong Mo ─H coupling ability of β-Mo2C, optimizing the intrinsic activity of hydrogen evolution. Furthermore, this electrocatalyst can realize efficient hydrogen precipitation driven by solar energy. AbstractElectrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) from water splitting driven by renewable energy is considered a promising method for large-scale hydrogen production, and a...
