Is my class schedule good enough? (Bio Research)
Im not exactly interested going into Pre-Pharmacy but it is on the table. I would really like to do work in molecular biology (a lot research!) .. and eventually working my way to more sophisticated molecular research in the future. I am currently an undergrad at Oswego State University majoring in: B.S. Biology with two minors in Health Science and Chemistry.
Now, my main question is... will my courseload be sufficient enough to gain admission into a Masters program in Molecular Biology? I...

LOR: would this count as a non-science letter?
Hi All!
I have a somewhat specific question about a letter of rec coming from a professor who taught me a non-science course that was listed in a science department. This professor knows me very well, so I definitely want to use this letter.
The course is listed as in the department of molecular and cellular biology. However, the CONTENT of the course was far outside of BPCM, it was very much social study. The title of the course was the Public Engagement with Science.
I am hoping to...

MD/PhD Chances
Hi all,
I've read through Neuronix's chances thread, and I still have some concerns about my application. I am hoping to apply in the coming cycle (matriculating in 2019)
I graduated with a 3.85 cGPA, 3.87 sGPA, and 519 MCAT (131, 130, 132, 126).
Research:
3 years in a microbiology/molecular biology lab. Two poster presentations, a senior thesis, but no publications.
Currently a postbac at the NIH. Will have worked 2 years by the time of matriculation.

What is sGPA vs. BCP gpa..?
I know that science GPA includes BCP + math.
Does a Statistic class gets included in the science gpa?
Also, at my school, we have two different branches of biology majors: Integrative Biology and Molecular and Cellular Biology. IB studies plants and animals basically and MCB is human bio.
Do both of these biology classes count as BCP?
What other courses are counted as "science" in calculating science GPA other than math? or IB, MCB, Chem, Physics?
Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Not Particularly Good at Biology
Hi there! I'm almost done with my pre-reques, and I wanted some feedback on how to improve my brute force memorization skills.
I've discovered that I'm more of a logic reasoner than a memorizer -- I love chemistry and did very well in orgo and gen chem, even calc and physics. However, I'm not good at just plain memorization...
I did fine in the intro Bio sequence, but this semester I took an upper level bio class where we have to know a bunch of molecular pathways and names and stuff that I...

Intro Bio: Easy A Genetics and Ecosystems, or Harder Physiology Course?
My university offers intro biology in three courses: genetics and ecosystems, cellular and organ physiology, and molecular and cellular biology. Taking molecular and cellular biology is a given. For the second semester of biology which of the following should I take?
Genetics and Ecosystems w/ class average of A- and A for previous 2 semesters
Cellular and Organ Physiology w/ B and B for previous 2 semester
Is the latter course worth it for some MCAT content exposure? Is...

Ecology to boost sGPA
I was wondering if it would reflect poorly on me if I took Principles of Ecology along with physics, molecular bio, and human sexuality next semester. I really wanted to take a neuroscience course for my psych minor but I heard that the spring prof is really difficult.
I could take cancer biology but the timing interferes with the clinic I volunteer at. I could take bioinformatics, but my systems biology course I am in right now is kind of hard so I am not looking to go further into...

Need advice. Messed up pretty bad.
HI SDN.
I made a huge mistake. I am a senior in my 4th year with a 4.00 GPA. Currently applying. I messed up this semester. I got too overconfident and overloaded myself with courses I didnt even need. I am currently taking 19 credit hours and underestimated the time required for these courses.
Molecular Biology of the Cell
Biophysics 1
Orgo 2 + Lab
Chinese 1 (wanted to learn mandarin, unexpectedly is requiring lots of time to practice)
Peer Leading in Chemistry
I am on top of all my...

Molecular Bio and Genetics for the MCAT
Are molecular biology and genetics very important for the MCAT? And if so, which would be more important to take? I only have room to take one of them and I am leaning toward taking genetics, but I am not too sure. (Source: Student Doctor Network)
