How to Explain Dropping Grades in Secondaries
Hello Everyone:
My application right now, in my opinion, is not too strong, but not abysmal. 513 MCAT(127/128/128/130), 3.6 GPA, enough shadowing, several non-clinical volunteering, EMT certification.
However, my GPA is my primary concern. I did fairly well in high school: near 4.0 GPA, 36 ACT, etc. and I did fairly well in my first two years of college, 3.8 GPA, but in junior year, my grades tanked. I got a C in Molecular Biology twice, and I really don't know how to explain this and/or...

How do you guys avoid overthinking or underthinking a question and avoiding dumb errors in general?
I had a question yesterday that said something along the lines of:
A patient has a mutation in an enzyme required for purine synthesis, which of the following pathways will be directly affected?
A) DNA replication
B) RNA transcription
C) Both
D) Neither
This is a simple question, especially for a guy like me with a molecular biology degree. I have all of the necessary knowledge to answer this. In spite of that I got it wrong.
At first I was like, "clearly both processes need purines so...

I really don't want to take a biology course that has to do with animals
I understand that if I get into med school, I'll have to learn a lot about human biology. I want to learn about plants right now. So I have a question. My state med school requires 1 semester of "general zoology/biology with laboratory" and 1 semester of "Genetics, Cellular biology, or Molecular biology". It also says that AP exams are acceptable if a subsequent higher course is taken for a grade.
Do you guys think that I could take some plant science classes instead of this stuff? Would a...

Brand New TBR Bio I and II (updated for MCAT2015) for sale
Hey guys! I'm selling a completely new set of TBR Bio I (Physiology) and II (Molecular Cell Biology) books. They are the latest edition of the bio set (2015). I bought them at the end of last summer in addition to all of the sets that I already had (Kaplan, EK, TPR) in case I didn't do well on the MCAT my first time around and needed some new material to study for a re-take. I ended up not needing them, so they're completely new and unused. As you guys probably know, the original cost from...

2.68 cgpa 2.0 sgpa Retake classes or do an SMP program? DO school
Hello,
I am an undergrad with an overall gap of 2.68 and science gpa of 2.0. I have 37 credits worth of science pre req left (orgo, biochem, cell bio, micro, genetics, molecular bio, etc) to complete the bachelors in biology. In the beginning of college I struggled and did not seek help, and that is evident in my poor gpa. Now I have developed stronger studying skills and am more motivated, so my gpa has shown an upward trend.
I am interested in applying to DO schools in the future,...

BME v. Molecular Biology
Hi everyone,
I will be a freshman undergrad this fall and am having a world of difficulty deciding whether to major in Biomedical Engineering or Molecular Biology / Genetics.
I am pre-med, and I know that GPA is incredibly important, and that a Bio major is likely easier than BME. However, a BME major may look better and harder to an admissions committee, easing the chances of admissions and that there is a correlation between BME and higher MCAT scores.
I want to major in something...

Thoughts on my list of schools (First Post)
Hello everyone,
I have been on SDN a lot but haven`t seen a post that specifically addresses my application. I was hoping I could get some brief advice on my school list based on my scores + ECs. From what I see, my biggest weaknesses are the 9 in Verbal and mediocre ECs. Trying to make up for this with a brilliant PS. Thanks!
Personal Info: Mixed Race (Not URM), Male, California Resident
Major: BS Cell & Molecular Biology, BS Anthropology
School: Middling Private School

Critique School List
Hello all,
Although initially I wanted to apply to more, I won't financially be able to manage more than ~25 schools. I have 17 here that I think are solid and I want to nail down the list so that I can start pre-writing secondaries ASAP. Looking for any additions/deletions that you might have.
My application:
White male, IL resident. Re-applicant.
GPA: ~3.85 depending on last semester. sGPA should be roughly the same. Double major molecular biology and chemistry
MCAT: 31
-About 400...
