Mdivi-1: Effective but complex mitochondrial fission inhibitor
In this study, we could better understand the molecular network of Mdivi-1 by analyzing DNA methylation and mRNA transcription in the nucleus and further investigating various changes in mitochondria, providing inspiration for studying nuclear-mitochondrial communications.PMID:38581953 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbrc.2024.149886 (Source: Biochemical and Biophysical Research communications)

Types of memory, dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and their various pathological cascades as targets for potential pharmacological drugs
Ageing Res Rev. 2024 Apr 4;96:102289. doi: 10.1016/j.arr.2024.102289. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia accounting for 90% of cases; however, frontotemporal dementia, vascular dementia, etc. prevails only in a minority of populations. The term dementia is defined as loss of memory which further takes several other categories of memories like working memory, spatial memory, fear memory, and long-term, and short-term memory into consideration. In this review, these memories have critically been elaborated based on context, duration, events, appearance, intensity, etc. ...

Sudden cardiac death triggered by minimal alcohol consumption in the context of novel PPA2 mutations in 2 unrelated families
We describe the first four cases reported in Spain of PPA2 disease in two unrelated families. We have conducted a revision of the clinical history, necropsies, and postmortem genetic testing from probands, and clinical evaluation, genetic testing and blood transcript analysis in family members. All the cases harbored biallelic PPA2 variants in compound heterozygous status. Two brothers from family 1 suffered sudden death after a small first intake of alcohol in 2013 and 2022. The sister remains alive but affected with cardiomyopathy, extensive scar on cardiac imaging, and high sensitivity to alcohol intake. The three sibli...
