Which GPA is more important: undergrad vs. post bacc?
Hi! I graduated (Johns Hopkins) with a cGPA of 3.42 after only taking 2 premed classes. I had an upward trend, my last 3 semesters being 3.87, 3.93, and 4.0. I ended up doing a formal postbacc (USC) of 30 credits (Bio, O Chem 2 semesters, Gen chem 1 semester, Physics 2 semesters, Biochem 1 semester, Microbiology 1 quarter). I finished my post bacc with a 4.0. If I combine my cGPA from bacc and post bacc I have a 3.56, and sGPA 3.69. My MCAT score was a 521. My advisor told me that the GPAs... Will completing an accelerated master ’s degree actually benefit my application?
Hi— I’m currently a 4th year undergrad at a large state school Studying microbiology. I currently have about 1500 hours of research in the lab I work in (with independent projects and a mid/high IF mid-author pub) and will probably add another 700 or so in the coming school year. I plan to take gap years after I graduate and do research. I want to work at the NIH irta because my lab has many collaborators there and my PI wants to help me get a position there. I want to attend an MSTP... Will completing an accelerated master’s degree actually benefit my application? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Tulane MS in Microbiology & Immunology Program info
I realize that there are tons of forums for the other Tulane MS programs but there is not one with sufficient information on their micro & immunology program. I was recently accepted and received some info from the program director and wanted to share it to help anyone applying to postbac programs. The program is new (~5 years) and is VERY comparable to their other MS programs like anatomy, pharmacology, biochemistry, cell & mol bio. It piggybacks off the structure and objectives of these... Applying to MD PhD with One Withdrawal
I plan to apply for MD PhD programs my senior year (taking a Gap year). My two top schools are Emory and Stanford. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and I’m a junior. I’ve been doing research since the summer of freshman year, each semester. I also got into Mayo Clinic’s summer fellowship for this summer (even though it may get cancelled due to Corona). However, there is one class (professor actually) that is really bothering me. It’ll be the class to destroy my straight A streak. It’s microbiology... Biology + Lab Requirement Confusion??
I met with my advisor today for the first time ever. I just transfered to my university last semester and we were reviewing my courses i've taken and making sure i'm on track for med school with my prereqs. Up until literally today (like 4 hours ago) I was under the impression I had completed all my biology prereqs at my community college. My CC offered 1 semester of general biology + lab, and then I took microbiology + lab, Human Anatomy + lab, and human Physio + lab. I figured that was... Biology + Lab Requirement Confusion?? Best Reference Textbooks for Step 1
What do you guys think are the best reference textbooks when you want to look up a certain topic? I often find that looking things up in a textbook is more efficient and leads to better information / context than a simple Google search. So far I really like Costanzo, Basic Pathology (Medium Robbins), and Review of Immunology and Microbiology. Are there any textbooks that you use that you think are great reference resources? Question on DIY post bacc (Repeating course?)
Hello all! Would these two courses be considered repeats if they are from different schools and have different course descriptions but similar key words. WAMC for 2021? Non-trad, 3.98 UG GPA, 3.83 chem PhD GPA, still need to study for MCAT
A little background: I'm about 6 months into my chemistry postdoc and cannot fathom staying in research. In typical marks of scientific success, I've done fairly well (authorship on 10+ publications, 20+ presentations), but definitely need a change. In undergrad I was pre-med/pre-dent for a few years, but went for analytical chem grad school because I did enjoy the work at the time. Biology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, and everything else integrated as it is in medicine has... WAMC for 2021? Would appealing this grade be worth the trouble?
Just finished kinda senior year, kinda post-bacc (was finishing up a minor & taking extra classes). I ended with a 3.95: Microbiology= A Genetics= A Sociology= A Biomechanics= A Biochemistry= A- four year breakdown and postbacc is (3.4/3.3/3.85/3.88/3.95) with increasing credit load every year. In Biochemistry there was an error the professor made in grading an exam. When confronted she said it "would not make a difference" which ended up giving me a 92.76% in the class instead of a... International Student's Chances at DO programs and MD programs?
Hello everyone! I'm very worried about getting into medical school. I am international student but I've been here since 4th grade. I'm added a year to my undergrad so I'm going to graduate as a 5th-year senior. I've done all of my undergrad in US and I am majoring in microbiology and psych. I have a 3.97 GPA and my biggest worry is my MCAT score. I haven't taken it yet but I'm thinking the highest I'll get is probably a 510. I have ~2 years of research in a bio lab, I have a non-first... International Student's Chances at DO programs and MD programs? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
