Are my chances over with a W in an SMP?
Hello this was supposed to be my last semester in my SMP but I had to withdraw from a course. In all honesty, I bit way more than I can chew this semester. I’m a research assistant for three different projects, a student mentor for the pre health club at my community college, I’m in a leadership position for a club in my program, and I’m the microbiology tutor for my program as well. I was way too preoccupied with my other responsibilities and I’m failing a class. I have to withdraw. Passing... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ohio State vs UVA
Hi everyone! I would love to hear some feedback about your opinions of these schools and which you think might be a better fit for my interests. I've done research in nutrition/gut microbiology for 4 years and definitely want to continue doing lots of research in med school (preferably still in this area). As of right now, I want to go into academic medicine and possibly specialize in internal medicine (gastro maybe?) plus I want to do some global health electives. Ohio State... What to list MLT as on AMCAS application
Worked as a MLT in a hospital specializing in hematology and microbiology testing for almost 2-years. Preformed CBC and manual diffs, helped in bone marrow biopsy, read microbiology plates and preformed susceptibility testing, etc. Very little patient interaction, but consistent interactions with physicians. Applying in the 2024-2025 cycle and was told by my masters program advisor to list the MLT as research/lab, but I am unsure if that counts as true research as it is not hypothesis driven... Cornell (OOS) vs. Penn (OOS)
I've been accepted by Cornell and got the interview invitation from Penn. However, I need to take two more Microbiology courses to meet the prerequisite for Penn. One of them is only provided this quarter and the workload is pretty high. I'm now hesitating whether I should wait for the decision from Penn or just drop the course. I'm an international student so I am OOS tuition and farrrrrrrr away from home everywhere. I grew up in a big city and went to UCLA. I've never experienced life in... WAMC/School List (3.79 cGPA, 517 MCAT)
Hi everyone! I am a junior hoping to apply this cycle. I want to go into primary care (family med with an interest in liver disease) or GI. I would appreciate any feedback on things I need to improve or what schools I should consider. I have extensive research experience, but am not limiting myself to research-focused schools unless that is what I will need to do. GPA: 3.79 cGPA, 3.70 sGPA Major: Junior Microbiology major at a UC (California) MCAT: 517... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Bad first semester - advice?
Freshman year microbiology major - I have an A+, A, or A- in everything except two, very heavily weighted classes: calc 1 and gen chem 1. Calc 1 I have a B in and for me, it's very conceptually hard to understand. The class basically consists of the teacher introducing a unit, doing 2-4 problems within said unit, asking if everyone understands, and then ending class. I've completely zoned out in class and have been self-studying, but don't feel I have a great grasp on the subject. I find... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Upper Division Biology Elective P/F, Withdraw, or Gamble?
Hi SDN, I'm looking for advice on where to proceed with this. I'm currently in my 4th year taking a microbiology lab class as an upper-division biology elective. I've already completed my one year of biology and a separate biology lab in addition to all the other recommended stuff (genetics, physio, biochem) and done very well in all of them. Unfortunately, things have gone sour for this class. My optimistic prediction is a B, with a B- being likely and a C+ being plausible. My current sGPA... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

3.25 GPA, 525 MCAT, in DIY post-bacc. School list help, WAMC?
I'm applying next June. Thank you for any advice. 1. Grades 3.25 cGPA and 3.05 sGPA. GPA low mostly due to a string of failures 5 years ago. Upward trend, graduated, got healthy, set mind on medicine. Now in the 1st of 3 DIY post-bacc quarters at public university. Couldn't afford private/SMP. Course selection is limited. Plan is microbiology, microbial physiology, foundations + critical readings + seminar in biomedical sciences, intermediate statistics, regression modeling, biology... DAT Studying While Taking Classes
Hello, I am currently taking ochem 2, microbiology, and 2 online electives. With more time on my hands, I have decided to start studying for the DAT in hopes of taking it in January 2024. The problem I am facing is that I do not know what kind of schedule to follow and whether I should invest in DAT Bootcamp this early. Should I just take this time to watch free videos or do free practice questions on QR, RC, PAT, and genchem to keep that content fresh on my mind? Then during winter break... DAT Breakdown (23 AA, 25 TS, 23 PAT)
PAT - 23 QR - 19 RC - 19 BIO - 30 GC - 24 OC - 22 TS - 25 AA - 23 Background: I took this exam right after my sophomore year in college (summer of sophomore year). I had just taken organic chemistry and microbiology. I had also taken general chemistry and biology during my freshman year. I have not taken biochemistry yet (but I don't think it was super necessary to do well on the DAT). Materials I used: DAT Booster was my main thing. I took most of my study material from booster.
