Utilization of psychotropic medicines in Romania during 1998 –2018
Conclusion: We observed an increasing utilization of APs and a more prominent increase in ADs utilization in Romania during 1998–2018. The anxiolytic prescribing remained nearly stable during this time. Further research can bring more information on the various factors influencing psychotropic utilization in Romania. Rapid symptom control in neuroleptic malignant syndrome with electroconvulsive therapy: A case report
ConclusionBrisk identification of potentially life-threatening NMS and NMS-like states, including malignant catatonia, warrants a trial of ECT. ECT’s theoretical mechanisms of action coincide with the theoretical pathophysiology of the conditions. It is a viable and safe treatment option for reducing mortality. With prompt initiation of ECT, we obtained rapid control of a condition with a potentially high mortality. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)

Baclofen and catatonia: a case report
Pan Afr Med J. 2022 Dec 21;43:198. doi: 10.11604/pamj.2022.43.198.38403. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTBaclofen was approved for medical use in the United States in 1977 by Food and Drug Administration. Serious adverse effects associated with this medication are uncommon at usually prescribed doses. Herein, we present a case of baclofen-induced catatonia in a young-adult female with back pain receiving oral baclofen. A 20-year-old female presented to the emergency department with possible seizure-like activity. It was reported that the patient was suffering from acute back pain and was prescribed baclofen three times a day by h...

Changing prescribing practice for rapid tranquillization –a quality improvement project based on the Plan-Do-Study-Act method
ConclusionIt was possible to increase the quality of treatment of acute agitation in a large inpatient mental health care setting using a stepwise approach based on iterative PDSA cycles and continuous data feedback. This approach might be valuable in other prescribing practice scenarios with feedback from local stakeholders and opinion leaders. (Source: Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology)

Amoxicillin induced fever, rash, and catatonia - A case study
CONCLUSION: Since the diagnosis of catatonia is often missed, any cases with clinical presentation of fever, rash, altered sensorium, and generalized rigidity should also be suspected for drug-induced ADR and the precipitating factor should be searched for.PMID:36892033 | DOI:10.2174/1574886318666230308094209 (Source: Current Drug Safety)

The electrocardiogram on the wrist: a frightening experience to the untrained consumer: a case report
ConclusionsThis case demonstrates the potential risks of anxiety from nonprofessional electrocardiogram recordings by smartwatches. Medico –legal and practical aspects of electrocardiogram recordings by smartwatches need to be further considered. The case shows the potential side effects of pseudo-medical recommendations for the untrained consumer, and may add to the discussion on the ethics of how to evaluate smartwatch electrocardi ogram data as a medical professional. Changes in Test Methods for Internationalization in the Japanese Pharmacopoeia (Part 3): Establishment of a Quantitative Method for Sodium Cromoglicate and Trihexyphenidyl Hydrochloride Using HPLC Analysis
In this study, we synthesized the related impurities of sodium cromoglicate and trihexyphenidyl hydrochloride listed in the EP and determined their purities using quantitative NMR. The separation conditions of these compounds were examined using HPLC and simultaneous analyses were performed.PMID:36858562 | DOI:10.1248/yakushi.22-00188 (Source: Yakugaku Zasshi : Journal of the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan)
