Case report: Evolution of catatonic mutism and psychotic symptoms in an adolescent with Down syndrome: transition from Down syndrome disintegrative disorder to anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor encephalitis
During her first year of junior high school, a 12-year-old Japanese girl with Down syndrome experienced dizziness, gait disruption, paroxysmal weakness in her hands, and sluggish speaking. Regular blood tests and a brain MRI revealed no abnormalities, and she was tentatively diagnosed with adjustment disorder. Nine months later, the patient experienced a subacute sickness of chest pain, nausea, sleep problem with night terrors, and delusion of observation. Rapid deterioration then developed with simultaneous fever, akinetic mutism, loss of facial expression, and urine incontinence. These catatonic symptoms improved after a...

13 Feasibility of the pragmatic PBPK modelling approach - towards model-informed dosing in paediatric clinical care
Conclusions Pragmatic PBPK modelling in paediatrics is feasible, though the approach is not straight forward as limitations, such as inadequate parameterization with respect to paediatric-specific ADME properties, have been observed. A thorough understanding of the models assumptions and limitations is required, before dose recommendations can be generated for use in clinical practice. Striatal adenosine A < sub > 2A < /sub > receptor involvement in normal and large nest building deer mice: perspectives on compulsivity and anxiety
Behav Brain Res. 2023 May 10:114492. doi: 10.1016/j.bbr.2023.114492. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTObsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is characterized by recurring obsessive thoughts and repetitive behaviors that are often associated with anxiety and perturbations in cortico-striatal signaling. Given the suboptimal response of OCD to current serotonergic interventions, there is a need to better understand the psychobiological mechanisms that may underlie the disorder. In this regard, investigations into adenosinergic processes might be fruitful. Indeed, adenosine modulates both anxiety- and motor behavioral output. Thus, ...

Cannabis-Induced Catatonia in a 15-Year-Old Male: A Case Report
CONCLUSIONS: This report emphasizes the importance of clinicians maintaining a high index of suspicion to accurately diagnose and treat cannabis-induced neuropsychiatric conditions, which is especially important as the use of high-potency cannabis products in young people increases.PMID:37141480 (Source: WMJ)
