Enhancing nerve regeneration in infraorbital nerve injury rat model: effects of vitamin B complex and photobiomodulation
AbstractOrofacial nerve injuries may result in temporary or long-term loss of sensory function and decreased quality of life in patients. B vitamins are required for DNA synthesis and the repair and maintenance of phospholipids. In particular, vitamins B1, B6, and B12 are essential for neuronal function. Deficiency in vitamin B complex (VBC) has been linked to increased oxidative stress, inflammation and demyelination. Photobiomodulation (PBM) has antioxidant activity and is neuroprotective. In addition, a growing literature attests to the positive effects of PBM on nerve repair. To assess the effect of PBM and VBC on rege...

The phenomenon of skin contraction in CO2 LASER surgical incisions using superpulse and continuous emission mode – preliminary study
This study suggests that the use of the Continuous mode of LASER emission, regardless of the power used, is associated with a higher level of final skin contraction.Trial registration number and date of registration for prospectively registered trialsProject approval registration number by the Research and Teaching Ethics Committee (CEIE),Faculty of Veterinary Medicine —University of Lisbon (FMV_ULisboa), Lisboa—Portugal, N/Refª 015/2022. Effectiveness of photobiomodulation therapy in the treatment of patients with an ankle sprain: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionPBMT is quite effective for patients with an ankle sprain. PBMT showed high effect size with a moderate level of evidence on pain intensity. The lack of significant effects of PBMT on function and edema with low level of evidence limit the confidence to the current results and recommend further large high-quality studies with higher PBMT intensity and fluency for standardisation of the irradiation parameters and treatment protocol.RegistrationPROSPERO registration number (CRD42021292930). Role of Low-Level Laser Therapy in the Management of Temporomandibular Joint Arthralgia
AbstractTo study the efficacy of low-level laser therapy in the management of temporomandibular joint arthralgia.Design Interventional study (pre-post study),Setting Meenakshi Medical College And Hospital, Research Institute.Subjects 50 patients with temporomandibular joint arthralgia were evaluated for pain, mouth opening and clicking sound while mouth opening before and after treatment.Method Patients are subjected to undergo low-level laser therapy with Infrared and red rays with a therapeutic dosage ranging from 8  J/cm2 to 15  J/cm2 up to 3 –5 sessions for a month each session lasts for 15–20 min. The patients ...

Pediatric Facial Burn Reconstruction
Semin Plast Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0044-1786009Contrary to prior pediatric burn treatment philosophies, we now know that early burn excision and grafting for non life-threatening burns can compromise future reconstruction. Extensive scar excision should be minimized and scar rehabilitation maximized, as secondary iatrogenic deformities can become even more difficult to fix. Scar remodeling with local tissue rearrangement can relieve tension and soften scars over time. The majority of facial burns often only involve skin and can be adequately treated without the need for complex flap reconstruction. Facial burn scars are a dif...

Comparison of minimally invasive to standard temporal lobectomy approaches to epilepsy surgery: Seizure relief and visual confrontation naming outcomes
Epilepsy Behav. 2024 Apr 24;155:109669. doi: 10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109669. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to systematically examine three different surgical approaches in treating left medial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE) (viz., subtemporal selective amygdalohippocampectomy [subSAH], stereotactic laser amygdalohippocampotomy [SLAH], and anterior temporal lobectomy [ATL]), to determine which procedures are most favorable in terms of visual confrontation naming and seizure relief outcome. This was a retrospective study of 33 adults with intractable mTLE who underwent left temporal lobe surgery at ...

Predictive role of ureteral wall thickness and patient characteristics in endoscopic treatment outcomes for ureteral stricture disease following stone surgery
ConclusionsOur current results indicated that assessment of UWT value at the obstructing stone could be helpful enough to predict the likelihood of failure following endoscopic management of strictures with high sensitivity and specificity. Evaluation of this particular parameter could let the endourologists to look for more rational treatment alternatives with necessary measures taken on time. (Source: World Journal of Urology)

Advantages of the co2 laser use in the rare condition of nasal mucosa squamous cell carcinoma surgery in dogs —a clinical prospective study
AbstractNasal mucosa tumors are an uncommon process and very dificult to work on with surgery. Radiotherapy associated or not with chemotherapy is the standard method to treat the disease. However, its access it is in the majority of the case not possible, making the surgery the best choice to try to achieve the patient's control. The anatomy of the region makes the complete surgical resection very difficult to achieve using the common and conventional blade scalpel surgery.  The study features the advantages of using a CO2 laser to perform nasal mucosa carcinoma surgery in 6 dogs (N  = 6). For the work we used an Aes...
