Complementary and alternative therapies for managing postoperative pain after lower third molar surgery: a systematic review and network meta-analysis
ConclusionThe study findings suggest that these alternative and complementary therapies may be useful in reducing postoperative pain after LTM surgeries, and may offer advantages when combined to traditional pain management methods.Clinical relevance: Non-pharmacological therapies are gaining popularity among healthcare professionals and patients. This study found that some of these therapies, specifically kinesio-taping and drainage tube were effective in controlling postoperative pain after third molar surgeries. These findings have important implications for clinical practice, as they highlight the potential benefits of...

The effect of combined red, blue, and near-infrared light-emitting diode (LED) photobiomodulation therapy on speed of wound healing after superficial ablative fractional resurfacing
In conclusion, PBM therapy has the potential to improve wound healing. In this study, a three wavelength PBM device resulted in some subjects achieving faster healing after AFL but the results were not statistically significant. (Source: Lasers in Medical Science)

XRelevanceCAM: towards explainable tissue characterization with improved localisation of pathological structures in probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy
ConclusionWe introduce a new CAM variation, XRelevanceCAM, for precise identification of clinically important structures in pCLE data. This can aid introperative decision support in brain tumour resection surgery, as validated in our performance study. (Source: International Journal of Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery)

Iatrogenic or recurrent bladder neck contracture treated by the Palminteri –Ferrari technique: a new way to approach a frustrating condition
ConclusionsOur technique of BNS treatment allows good outcomes and high rate of subjective improvement amongst patients. Moreover, na ïve patients seem to have better results. However, longer follow-up and higher sample size are mandatory to further assess these data. (Source: World Journal of Urology)

Blue Laser for Polymerization of Bulk Fill Composites: Influence on dentin bond strength and temperature rise during curing and co-curing method
AbstractBlue diode lasers are alternative curing devices for dental composites. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of blue diode laser polymerization on shear bond strength of bulk fill composites to human dentin and temperature rise during two types of polymerization. Composite cylinders of SDR Plus(SDR) and Ever X Flow(EX) were bonded to dentin slabs using Adhese Universal and curing devices blue diode laser (449  nm, 1.6 W) and Power Cure LED. For each material and curing device there were two polymerization approaches: 1)conventional: separate curing of adhesive; 2)co-curing: simultaneous adhesive ...

T1D and T2D predispose to higher Nd:YAG capsulotomy rates following cataract surgery: analysis of 53,471 consecutive cases
CONCLUSION: In our large cohort study, patients with T1D and T2D were predisposed to high risk for Nd:YAG capsulotomy following cataract surgery. This study may be beneficial and raise awareness regarding the assessment of posterior capsular opacification development in pseudophakic diabetic patients, particularly those with T1D. The significance of ophthalmology screening for diabetes individuals is further supported by this issue.PMID:38513717 | DOI:10.1016/j.jcjo.2024.02.014 (Source: Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology)

Imaging in reconstructive microsurgery  - current standards and latest trends
Innov Surg Sci. 2024 Feb 22;8(4):227-230. doi: 10.1515/iss-2023-0040. eCollection 2023 Dec.ABSTRACTIn microsurgery, many different imaging techniques are available in both flap and lymphatic surgery that all come with their own advantages and disadvantages. In flap surgery, CT angiography is considered as the gold standard. Among others, Doppler ultrasound, color Doppler ultrasound, ICG, and smartphone-based thermal cameras are valuable imaging techniques. In lymphatic surgery, photoacoustic imaging, laser tomography, contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging, and high frequency ultrasound stand available to surgeons ne...
