Case Report: Opposite Tumoral and Hormonal Responses to Low-dose Pasireotide in Cushing's Disease
CONCLUSIONS: This report suggests that CD Pas induces an opposite effect between hormonal profile and increase of pituitary tumor size. This peculiar phenomenon may be a consequence of the unusually low doses of pasireotide needed to control hormonal hypersecretion.PMID:37937561 | DOI:10.2174/0118715303260160231020070423 (Source: Endocrine, Metabolic and Immune Disorders Drug Targets)

The safety of oral antifungals for the treatment of onychomycosis
This article identifies possible hepatic, renal, cutaneous, cardiovascular, neurological, hemopoietic and obstetric adverse events. We have also compared the rates of hepatotoxicity, clinically apparent liver injury, and alanine transaminase elevations between oral antifungals, and recommendations for hepatic monitoring.EXPERT OPINION: We recommend laboratory testing of liver function tests prior to the administration of any oral antifungals, especially when clinically indicated. In the event of a first treatment failure, the diagnosis of onychomycosis must be confirmed, and consideration given to antifungal susceptibility...

New 1,2,3-Triazole/1,2,4-triazole Hybrids as Aromatase Inhibitors: Design, Synthesis, and Apoptotic Antiproliferative Activity
Molecules. 2023 Oct 14;28(20):7092. doi: 10.3390/molecules28207092.ABSTRACTA novel series of 1,2,3-triazole/1,2,4-triazole hybrids 5a, 5b, and 6a-i was designed and synthesized as antiproliferative agents targeting aromatase enzymes. The antiproliferative activity of the new hybrids against four cancer cells was studied using Erlotinib as a control. Compounds 6a and 6b demonstrated the highest antiproliferative activity among these hybrids, with GI50 values of 40 nM and 35 nM, respectively. Compound 6b was the most potent derivative, with a GI50 of 35 nM, comparable to Erlotinib's GI50 of 33 nM. Compound 6b inhibited all c...

Murine Malaria Model: Ketoconazole Preventing Malaria while Proguanil and Sulfadoxine/Pyrimethamine Protected against Malaria-associated Anemia and Kidney Damage
CONCLUSION: Ketoconazole possesses prophylactic antimalarial activity with associated dose-related renal impairment. Sulfadoxine/pyrimethamine demonstrated renoprotective potentials, while PRG prevented malaria-associated anemia.PMID:37881078 | DOI:10.2174/0118715265239831231017080840 (Source: Infectious Disorders Drug Targets)

Management of small cell lung cancer complicated with paraneoplastic Cushing ’s syndrome: a systematic literature review
Paraneoplastic Cushing’s syndrome (PCS) is a rare, but clinically important feature of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) that is associated with even worse prognosis. To identify key considerations in comprehensive management of SCLC patients complicated with PCS, we conducted a systematic review of relevant reports on PubMed and Web of Science, focusing on SCLC with PCS cases. The systematic review analyzed 61 reports published between 1985 and 2022 with a total of 157 SCLC patients included. Out of the 157 patients, 132 (84.1%) patients across 58 (95.1%) reports were diagnosed with ectopic Cushing’s syndrome. The immunoh...

Metabolite profiling and identification of enzymes responsible for the metabolism of hirsutine, a major alkaloid from Uncaria rhynchophylla
This study provided valuable information on the metabolic fates of hirsutine in liver microsomes, which would aid in understanding the hepatotoxicity caused by hirsutine or hirsutine-containing herb preparation.PMID:37819730 | DOI:10.1080/00498254.2023.2269417 (Source: Xenobiotica)
