Multi-dimensional metabolomic profiling reveals dysregulated ornithine metabolism hallmarks associated with a severe acute pancreatitis phenotype
CONCLUSIONS: The plasma metabolome of AP patients is distinctive, which shows promise for early SAP diagnosis. AP aggravation is linked to the activated ornithine metabolic pathway and its inadequate levels of catabolites in in-situ lesion.PMID:37619665 | DOI:10.1016/j.trsl.2023.08.003 (Source: Translational Research : the journal of laboratory and clinical medicine)

Transcription factor EBF1 mitigates neuropathic pain by rescuing Kv1.2 expression in primary sensory neurons
In this study, we examined whether early B cell factor 1 (EBF1), a transcription factor, in the DRG participated in neuropathic pain caused by chronic constriction injury (CCI) of the sciatic nerve. EBF1 was distributed exclusively in neuronal nucleus and co-expressed with cytoplasmic/membrane Kv1.2 in individual DRG neurons. The expression of Ebf1 mRNA and protein was time-dependently downregulated in the ipsilateral lumbar (L) 3/4 DRGs after unilateral CCI. Rescuing this downregulation through microinjection of the adeno-associated virus 5 expressing full-length Ebf1 mRNA into the ipsilateral L3/4 DRGs reversed the CCI-i...

Extensive therapeutic effects, underlying molecular mechanisms and disease treatment prediction of Metformin: a systematic review
Transl Res. 2023 Aug 9:S1931-5244(23)00130-5. doi: 10.1016/j.trsl.2023.08.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetformin, a first-line management for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, has been expansively employed and studied with results indicating its therapeutic potential extending beyond glycaemic control. Beyond its established role, this therapeutic drug demonstrates a broad spectrum of action encompassing over sixty disorders, encompassing metabolic conditions, inflammatory disorders, carcinomas, cardiovascular diseases, and cerebrovascular pathologies. There is clear evidence of metformin's action targeting specific nodes in...

The rare circulating tumour microemboli as a biomarker contributes to predicting early colorectal cancer recurrences after medical treatment
This study evaluated the rare circulating tumour microemboli (CTM) from liquid biopsy individually and together with circulating tumour cells (CTCs) and serum CEA/CA19-9 in a panel, on early prediction of colorectal cancer (CRC) recurrence. Stained CTCs/CTM were detected by a microfluidic chip-based automatic rare-cell imaging platform. ROC, AUC, Kaplan-Meier survival, and Cox proportional hazard models regarding four selected biomarkers were analysed. The relative risk, odds ratio, predictive accuracy, and positive/negative predictive value of biomarkers individually and in combination, to predict CRC recurrence were asse...
