Pathogenesis of Higher Blood Pressure and Worse Renal Function in Salt-Sensitive Hypertension
Conclusions: Differences in growth factors and pathways may account for the manifestations of the SS group. Activated PI3K-AKT pathway with higher IGFBP-3 and GH can lead to renal damage. Higher MCSFR in the SS group indicates that high blood pressure and severe kidney damage may be associated with the activation of the immune system. EG-VEGF, VEGFR2, VEGFR3, and VEGF-D can also explain the elevated blood pressure due to the dilated lymphatic system which drains excess sodium and water back into circulation. The SS group presented higher AR and HGF which may worsen renal function by regulating cell proliferation and tumor ...

The Convoluted Tubules of the Nephron Must Be Considered Elliptical, and Not Circular, in Stereological Studies of the Kidney
Conclusion: The convoluted tubules of the nephron must not be considered circular, but rather elliptical; care should be taken every time the tubules are analyzed in stereological studies of the kidney, especially when evaluating their diameters and areas.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

Effect of a Home-Based Exercise Program on Indices of Physical Function and Quality of Life in Elderly Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients
Conclusions: MHD patients improved exercise capacity and some indices of QoL following a 12-week home-based exercise program. Home-based exercise is feasible for patients undergoing MHD and may help to obviate accessibility barriers to regular exercise.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

The COVID-19 Epidemic: Management and Outcomes of Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Patients in Stockholm, Sweden
Conclusion: HD patients #x3e;70 years were reported with longer dialysis vintage, higher CRP, and males were at an increased risk of dying from COVID-19, whereas those #x3c;70 years seemed to have a milder disease. Mitigation strategies to reduce rates of infection in high-risk populations remain essential. Follow-up focusing on long-term prognosis for extrapulmonary manifestations is likely to be important also in dialysis patients.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

Local Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 Gene Expression in Kidney Allografts Is Not Affected by Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone Inhibitors
Conclusions: ACEis or ARBs in kidney transplant recipients do not affect local ACE2 expression. This observation supports long-term RAAS treatment in kidney transplant recipients, despite acute complications such as COVID-19 where ACE2 serves as the entry protein for infection.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

Pathophysiological Implication of Vitamin D in Diabetic Kidney Disease
Background: Vitamin D is a hormone regulating not only calcium and phosphate homeostasis but also, at the same time, exerting many other extraskeletal functions via genomic effects (gene transcription) and probably by non-genomic effects as well. Availability is ensured by dietary intake of its precursors and by de novo production via sunlight. Yet, vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency are very common across the globe and are connected to many pathophysiological states, for example, diabetes mellitus, allergies, autoimmune diseases, pregnancy complications, and recently have also been associated with worse COVID-19 clini...

Stronger Effect of Azilsartan on Reduction of Proteinuria Compared to Candesartan in Patients with CKD: A Randomized Crossover Trial
Conclusion: A 20 mg azilsartan dose had potent antiproteinuric effects compared with an 8 mg candesartan dose, without an increase in adverse events. Azilsartan may provide renal protection in addition to antihypertensive effects in CKD patients.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

Long Noncoding RNA PRNCR1 Reduces Renal Epithelial Cell Apoptosis in Cisplatin-Induced AKI by Regulating miR-182-5p/EZH1

Outcomes in Living Donor Kidney Transplantation: The Role of Donor ’s Kidney Function
Conclusions: Donor ’s eGFR and age are strong predictors of recipient’s kidney function at 3 years. We suggest that donor’s eGFR should be clinically balanced with other determinants of kidney function and in particular with age.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

Quality or Quantity of Proteins in the Diet for CKD Patients: Does “Junk Food” Make a Difference? Lessons from a High-Risk Pregnancy
Discussion and Literature Review: While data on patients with chronic kidney disease are scant, the long list of contaminants present in food, especially if of low quality, should lead us to reflect on their potential negative effect on kidney function and make us realize that eating healthy, unprocessed “organic” food should be encouraged, in delicate conditions such as pregnancy and breastfeeding and for young children, in particular when kidney function is failing. The case herein described gave us the opportunity to reflect on the importance of diet quality and on the potential risks linked to food additives, many ...

Renal Sympathetic Denervation Attenuates Congestive Heart Failure in Angiotensin II-Dependent Hypertension: Studies with Ren-2 Transgenic Hypertensive Rats with Aortocaval Fistula
Conclusion: The results show that RDN significantly improved survival rate in ACF TGR; however, this beneficial effect was not associated with improvement of reduced RBF or with attenuation of exaggerated renal vascular responsiveness to ANG II.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)
