Establishment of a Ciliogenesis-Associated Signaling Model for Polycystic Kidney Disease
Conclusions: Collectively, our work discovered an innovative potential signaling pathway model for PKD formation, which provided a valuable insight for future study of the mechanism of this disease.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

Secreted Frizzled-Related Protein 5 Ameliorates Vascular Calcification in a Rat Model of Chronic Kidney Disease through the Wnt/ β-Catenin Pathway
Conclusion: Our results suggest that SFRP5 ameliorates VC of CKD rats by inhibiting the expression of calcification and osteoblastic markers as well as the Wnt/ β-catenin pathway. Collectively, this study suggests that SFRP5 is a potential therapeutic target in CKD-VC.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

Measurement of Plasma Glucagon Levels Using Mass Spectrometry in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes on Maintenance Hemodialysis
Conclusions: This was the first study to assess glucagon levels in HD patients with T2DM using LC-HRMS, which is considered a highly accurate method. Sandwich ELISA was shown to measure glucagon levels accurately as well.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

Plasma Homocysteine Is a Predictive Factor for Accelerated Renal Function Decline and Chronic Kidney Disease in a Community-Dwelling Population
Conclusions: In this prospective cohort of individuals from community-based population, elevated plasma tHcy emerged as an independent predictor of renal function decline and incident CKD, which might support selection of at-risk individuals.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

Renal NKCC2 Is Dual Regulated by the Synergy of 20-HETE and High-Fat Diet in CYP4F2 Transgenic Mice
Conclusions: Our data demonstrated that the synergy between 20-HETE and HFD could decrease NKCC2 protein via posttranslational ubiquitination, which was thought to be the main mechanism underlying the short-term effect in response to HFD and might be responsible for the adaptive modulation of renal NKCC2 to resist sodium retention. Moreover, the increasedNKCC2 mRNA expression via PPAR- γ-induced transcriptional regulation was thought to be the main mechanism underlying the long-term effect in response to HFD and plays a pivotal role in the development of obesity-related hypertension.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney ...

Markers of the Endothelial Glycocalyx Are Improved following Kidney Transplantation
Conclusion: The combination of reduced PBR and syndecan-1 following transplant suggests that transplantation may improve glycocalyx stability at 3 months after transplant.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

Nephrologist Interventions to Avoid Kidney Replacement Therapy in Acute Kidney Injury
Conclusions: In this prospective cohort study of AKI patients, we found for the first time that early nephrologist intervention and fluid prescription adjustment were associated with lower risk of starting KRT and progression to AKI stage 3.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

The Risk Factors and Clinical Outcomes Associated with Acute Kidney Injury in Patients with COVID-19: Data from a Large Cohort in Iran
Conclusion: We found that male sex, history of CKD, hypertension, disease severity, and high serum urea were independent risk factors associated with AKI in patients with COVID-19. Also, higher stages of AKI were associated with increased risk of mortality and in-hospital complications. Our results indicate a necessity for more precise care and monitoring for AKI during hospitalization in patients with COVID-19, and lack of AKI recovery at the time of discharge is a common complication in such patients.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

A Case of Hypophosphatemia due to Oncogenic Osteomalacia in a Patient with Natural Killer T-Cell Lymphoma
Conclusion: Along with commonly reported germ line mesenchymal tumors and solid malignancies, NK T-cell lymphoma can also present as Onc-Ost. Timely detection of associated tumors and subsequent antitumor therapy would likely reverse hypophosphatemia and improve clinical outcomes.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)

Comparative Evaluation of Orthostatic Hypotension in Patients with Diabetic Nephropathy
Conclusion: OH prevalence is very high in CKD, and etiology of CKD does not have a statistically significant effect on the frequency of OH, despite a difference that could be meaningful clinically. Therefore, patients with CKD are checked for OH, with or without concurrent diabetes mellitus. Evaluation of postural BP changes should be a part of nephrology practice.Kidney Blood Press Res (Source: Kidney and Blood Pressure Research)
