Association of Epidermal Growth Factor 61A & gt;G, Survivin -31G & gt;C, and EFNA1 -1732G & gt;A Polymorphisms with Susceptibility to Colorectal Cancer
ConclusionOur results revealed that the survivin -31G>C polymorphism might play an important role in development of CRC in Iranian population. However, no association of EGF 61A>G and EFNA1 -1732G>A polymorphisms with CRC risk was found. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

PEG-Asparaginase Single-Agent Rescue in an Advanced Case of Monomorphic Epitheliotropic Intestinal T Cell Lymphoma
ConclusionThe case we described brings new evidences on the effectiveness of PEG-asparaginase therapy in MEITL patients. Whether PEG-asparaginase should be included in the treatment course of MEITL patients could be the subject of future studies. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

Metastasis from Cervical Cancer Presenting as a Pancreatic Head Mass — an Unexpected Diagnosis!
We present a case of pancreatic metastasis from cervical cancer, which has not been reported in literature. A 53-year-old woman presented with 3-month history of dull upper abdominal pain with anorexia and weight loss. Past medical history revealed a stage 3c squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) cervix treated by chemo-radiotherapy 2  years back. Contrast CT abdomen showed a pancreatic head mass encasing portal vein. CA-19.9 was 30.8 U/ml. 18-Fluorodeoxyglucose(FDG) PET/CT whole body scan showed avid pancreatic head mass and right lung nodule with no uptake in utero-cervix, adnexae or pelvic nodes. Endoscopic ultrasound-guided n...

The Anticancer Effect of a Conjugated Antimicrobial Peptide Against Colorectal Cancer (CRC) Cells
ConclusionThe conjugated peptide caused the death of CRC lines via induction of the apoptosis and necrosis mechanisms. More studies are needed in this regard. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

Solid Pseudopapillary Tumor of Pancreas with Sinistral Portal Hypertension: A Rare Presentation
AbstractAn elderly male presented with complaint of dull aching pain in left upper abdomen of 2  months’ duration. He was well built, and on abdominal examination, a large lump was palpable in left lumbar region. His biochemical, hematological parameters and tumor markers including CA 19.9 were within prescribed normal limits. Contrast enhanced computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen reveal ed large, well-defined, mixed solid, and cystic lesion arising from distal body-tail of the pancreas extending up to splenic hilum. Chronic thrombosis involving retro pancreatic splenic vein with multiple perisplenic, peripancreatic,...

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Challenges in the Management of Acute Massive Overt Bleeding of Jejunal Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumours: Case Series
ConclusionMultiphasic CTA is a single-step diagnostic tool for localisation of bleed and assessment of tumour characteristics in emergent conditions. Surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment for both control of bleed and to provide oncologically clear resection margins. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

Short-Term Outcomes After Robotic Versus Open Liver Resection: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
ConclusionThe increasing experience in the implementation of the robot will undoubtedly generate more prospective  randomized studies, necessary to assess its potential superiority over the traditional open approach, in a variety of hepatic lesions. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection Versus Radical Surgery for T1 Superficial Esophageal Cell Carcinoma: a Subgroup Survival Analysis
ConclusionFor patients with T1b superficial esophageal cancer, ESD has a longer overall survival and progression-free survival compared with radical surgery. These results support ESD as the preferred treatment for stage T1b superficial esophageal cancer. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

Advanced Hepatocellular Cancer Treated with Sorafenib and Novel Inflammatory Markers
ConclusionToday, as the standard first-line treatment of HCC has shifted to combinations with immunotherapy (IO), IO transportation is not possible in most countries of the world. However, there are also patients who achieve great survival with only sorafenib. The important point is to identify the biomarkers that predict which patient will benefit better from which treatment. With the markers in our study and a scoring system that can be obtained with these markers, it can be evaluated which patient will be given IO combination and which patient will be given only TKI treatment. We think that such a scoring system can be ...

Revising the Role of Integrin Subunit β4 Expression in Colon Cancer Progression and Survival
ConclusionContradictory reports have suggested opposite roles for β4 expression in (colon) cancer progression. In the present large cohort of colon cancer patients, we found that β4 expression was not associated with worse clinical prognosis, but decreased with advanced pathological tumor stage. Future studies should establish whether loss of β4 expression prom otes invasive characteristics of colon cancer cells. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

The Effect of Palliative Invasive Interventions on Overall Survival in the Last 3 Months of Life in Metastatic Gastric Cancer
ConclusionsIn this study, in which the effect of palliative invasive intervention (PIG) stories on survival in the last 3 months of life of patients diagnosed with metastatic gastric cancer was examined, no significant difference was found between those who underwent PIG and those who did not, in terms of overall survival. However, since PIG was not included in the design of our study, the effect of PIG in terms of quality of life, mood, motivation of patient relatives, and the cost is unknown.ResultsIn the final analysis, it was noted that 143 (94.1%) of the 152 patients included in the study died and 9 (5.9%) were still ...
