Validation of the Neoadjuvant Rectal Cancer (NAR) Score for Prognostication Following Total Neoadjuvant Therapy (TNT) for Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer
ConclusionsOur study validates the NAR score as a prognostic tool in patients receiving TNT for LARC. Tumors with perineural invasion and patients with a higher comorbidity score had worse NAR scores. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

Incidence of Brain Metastasis as First Event in Patients with Esophageal Carcinoma: a Report from Three Prospective Alliance Clinical Trials
ConclusionIn this prospective cohort of patients with esophageal carcinoma, those with high-grade adenocarcinoma appear to have a higher incidence of brain metastasis than historically reported. The pattern of brain metastases corroborates recent findings in terms of incidence, predominance of adenocarcinoma primary tumor histology, timing after diagnosis, and overall survival. Further study to confirm these findings, as well as the value of baseline, restaging and follow-up cranial imaging for brain metastasis is recommended.ClinicalTrials.gov IdentifiersNCT00022139 (NCCTG N0044), NCT00100945 (NCCTG N0342), and NCT0010094...

Post-Endoscopy Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Rate in a Tertiary Referral Centre: An Australian Data Linkage Analysis
ConclusionWe demonstrate that the PEUGIC-3Y rate was 4.8% (95% CI 2.1 –10.4). The majority of missed cases were adenocarcinomas of the gastro-oesophageal junction or stomach and developed in segments which were found to be normal at index gastroscopy, highlighting the challenges in detecting subtle mucosal lesions in the upper gastrointestinal tract. While overall s urvival between patients with detected and post-gastroscopy cancers was comparable, these ultimately represent potential missed opportunities for diagnosing an early cancer and underscore the need for quality improvement in gastroscopy. Perioperative Modified FLOT Versus EOX in Locally Advanced Resectable Gastric and Gastro-Oesophageal Junction Adenocarcinoma: Results of a Matched-Pair Analysis
ConclusionmFLOT is associated with improved resection rates and survival in comparison to EOX as perioperative therapy in gastric adenocarcinomas in this large real-world cohort, with manageable increase in clinically relevant toxicities such as grade 3 and grade 4 febrile neutropenia and neutropenia. A Meta-analysis of Total Neoadjuvant Therapies Combining Chemoradiotherapy with Induction or Consolidated Chemotherapy for Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer
ConclusionIn this meta-analysis of TNT regimens for rectal cancer, consolidative CT following nCRT was associated with similar PCR, 3-year DFS, LR, R0 resection, compliance, and grade 3 –4 toxicities compared to induction CT prior to nCRT but a higher rate of organ preservation. Importance of Arterial Vessel Length for Metastatic Lymph Node Retrieval and Survival in Standardized Left- and Right-Sided Colon Cancer Surgery
ConclusionsNeither retrieval of lymph nodes nor statistically significant survival was affected by vessel length in standardized left- and right-sided colon cancer surgery. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

Patients with Isolated Brain Metastases from Esophageal Carcinoma After Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy May Not Have a Dismal Prognosis
ConclusionsiBM after esophagectomy for esophageal carcinoma is rare, but when encountered can and should be treated with a curative intent in selected cases in close collaboration with large neurosurgical centers. A large-scale study should be conducted to confirm our findings. (Source: Journal of Gastrointestinal Cancer)

Correlation Between Tumor Response and Survival Outcomes in Patients with Advanced Gastric Cancer Receiving Ramucirumab and Paclitaxel as Second-Line Therapy
ConclusionTreatment with ramucirumab plus paclitaxel yielded the highest overall response rate reported to date for patients with previously treated advanced GC. In our experience, the initial tumor response is associated with a greater survival benefit which could be further improved by the identification of biomarkers predicting response. Construction and Evaluation of Nomogram for Hematological Indicators to Predict Pathological Response after Neoadjuvant Chemoradiotherapy in Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer
ConclusionA low preoperative CEA level, a young age, a high tumor from the anal verge, the maintenance of circulating lymphocyte level, and a decreased platelet level after NCRT are important factors for favorable outcomes after NCRT. Developing a nomogram prediction model with good discrimination and consistency can provide some guidance for predicting pathological responses after NCRT. The Clinico-histopathological Spectrum of Tumors and Tumor-Like Lesions in Adult Intussusception
ConclusionsNon-neoplastic causes are predominant in the enteric intussusceptions while neoplastic causes are more commonly associated with colonic or enterocolic intussusceptions.
