Mesh-less laparoscopic extraperitoneal linear suspension treatment of vaginal vault prolapse
Vaginal vault prolapse, a specific type of pelvic floor prolapse (POP), is a common complication following a hysterectomy, occurring in 0.2 –43 % of patients [1]. Post-hysterectomy vaginal vault prolapse (PHVP) can exert a serious negative impact on quality of life [1]. Given increases in the human life span and improved standards for quality of life, the treatment of PHVP has attracted increasing attention. ‘Breastfeeding exclusivity, difficulties, and support in the first days after hospital discharge: A correlational study’
It is often argued that “breast is best” because breastfeeding contributes to numerous health benefits for both infant and mother. However, breastfeeding rates in both high- and low-income countries indicate that WHO recommendations for optimal breastfeeding practices (e.g., six months of exclusive breastfeeding) are n ot being met [1]. In many high-income countries, most mothers initiate breastfeeding; however, many unintentionally discontinue breastfeeding in the first weeks after birth [1,2]. Today, mother-infant dyads are being discharged from birthhospitals earlier than ever before [2,3], meaning that more br east...

Self-sampling for HPV testing in cervical cancer screening: A scoping review
Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer affecting women worldwide, following breast, colorectal, and lung cancers, with 569,847 new cases reported every year [1]. The estimated incidence is 13.1 per 100,000 women, and there is an estimated mortality rate of 6.9 per 100,000 cases [2]. The primary cause of this type of cancer is intraepithelial lesions induced by high-risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV) types, which are detected in 99.7  % of cervical cancer cases [3]. Early diagnosis is one of the primary methods for preventing the progression of intraepithelial lesions that carry a risk of developing into cervical c...

Postpartum care: Clinical considerations for improving genital and sexual health
Care during the postpartum period (the 6- to 8-week time period beginning an hour following birth) is a neglected area of women ’s health, lacking research, policy and clinical attention [1]. Unsurprisingly, many women feel that their health concerns are not adequately addressed during the postpartum period [1]. Postpartum care is critical to women’s overall health and requires multiple elements. Early diagnosis and trea tment of common postpartum conditions, such as iron–deficient anaemia and postpartum depression, is fundamental and if left untreated, these conditions can have a profound impact on the mother, the n...

The effect of virtual reality and music on anxiety, non-stress test parameters, and satisfaction of high-risk pregnant women undergoing non-stress tests: Randomized controlled trial
Prenatal tests are commonly used to detect potential risks during pregnancy and allow for early intervention [1,2]. Healthcare professionals who monitor pregnant women utilize several prenatal tests, including non-stress tests (NST), which evaluate the relationship between fetal heart rate and movements [3,4]. Although NST is a non-invasive and painless procedure, it may cause anxiety in pregnant women during the procedure [5]. It has been reported that having to lie down for 20 –30 min during the NST procedure and staying in the same position for a long time, worrying about the result of the procedure, the possibility...

Use of anticoagulants to improve pregnancy outcomes in couples positive for M2 haplotype: A systematic review
Placenta mediated pregnancy complications (PMPC) include implantation failure, recurrent or late pregnancy loss, pre-eclampsia, placental abruption, fetal growth restriction and premature birth. PMPC represent a significant cause of physical, psychological and emotional morbidity, fetal loss, and maternal and neonatal mortality [1,11,23,35,36,54]. Pregnancy loss alone costs the National Health Service in the United Kingdom more than £400 million per year, highlighting the additional economic burden on health systems from PMPC [38]. Do PET-positive supradiaphragmatic lymph nodes predict overall survival or the success of primary surgery in patients with advanced ovarian cancer?
Ovarian cancer (OC) is the leading cause of gynaecologic cancer-related deaths in the Western hemisphere [1]. Approximately 70  % of ovarian carcinomas are detected at an advanced stage [2]. Primary cytoreductive surgery (PCS), with the goal of resecting all macroscopic tumours, followed by platinum-based chemotherapy, is the standard of care for advanced OC [3,4]. Complete resection of macroscopic disease remains the mai n prognostic factor for patients with advanced OC [1]. However, even with radical cytoreductive procedures in specialised centres, complete resection of residual macroscopic disease cannot be achieved i...

HIF-1 α regulates DcR3 to promote the development of endometriosis
Decoy receptor 3 (DcR3)/TNFRSF6B is a 33-kDa soluble factor of the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) superfamily. It operates as a decoy by neutralizing Fas-ligand (FasL), lymphotoxin-like, and competing with HSV glycoprotein D for HVEM receptor. DcR3 is elevated in serum and tumor samples of various cancers and is considered a biomarker for cancer progression [1 –3]. It also exhibits non-decoy functions through interactions with heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) such as syndecan 2 and CD44v3 [4]. Research progress of dydrogesterone in the treatment of endometriosis
Endometriosis is a common gynecological condition in women of childbearing age, characterized by the presence of endometrial glands and mesenchyme in areas other than the body of the uterus Brown et al., 2010;2010 [1]. Its clinical manifestations are mainly dysmenorrhea, chronic pelvic pain, menstrual disorders, infertility, and in severe cases, causing difficulty in defecation and painful intercourse. Its pathogenesis is unknown and is currently considered to be related to estrogen levels, immune factors, etc. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

Topical delivery of drugs in the treatment of high-grade cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions: A meta-analysis
High-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) and adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) are precancerous changes of cervical cancer. HSIL including cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 (CIN2) and grade 3 (CIN3) is usually caused by high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection. The transformation from HR-HPV infection to cervical cancer generally takes several decades. Thus, effective treatment and management of HSIL are essential to the secondary prevention of cervical cancer. Screening is an important strategy for detecting CIN. Mid-trimester sonographic placenta previa thickness and persistence at delivery
The incidence of placenta previa and placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) disorders have increased over the years largely secondary to increased cesarean delivery rates, reproductive assistance, and various uterine procedures such as myomectomy, septum resection, and lysis of intracavitary bands [1,2]. The reported incidence of placenta previa is approximately 1 in 200 and PAS is approximately 1 in 300 to 1 in 533, however these incidences can vary largely based on patients factors such as prior uterine surgery [3 –6]. In endometriosis-related pneumothorax surgery, presence of endometriotic nodules increases postoperative air leaks and long-term relapse
Catamenial pneumothorax (CP) represent between 20 and 35  % of premenopausal pneumothorax and is related to endometriosis in 50 % of cases [1,2]. Endometriosis-related non-catamenial pneumothorax (ER non-CP) represent between 6 and 10 % of pneumothorax among women of child bearing age [2–6]. Macroscopic and pathological lesions, described in both CP and ER non-CP, include diaphragmatic defect and pleural nodules [7–10]. These macroscopic lesions impact surgical management. During follow-up, CP and ER non-CP are associated with higher rate of postoperative recurrence and prolonged air leaks compared to idiopathic ...

The relationship between expression of Tspan5 mRNA in maternal-fetal interface and tubal pregnancy
Tubal pregnancy (TP) is identified as an embryo implantation occurs within the fallopian tube mucosa, with incidence of 1 –2 % worldwide [1,2]. It makes up over 98 % of ectopic pregnancy (EP), which is also the leading cause of maternal morbidity and mortality in the first trimester of pregnancy [3,4]. Although a large number of mechanism studies have been carried out, the exact cause of TP is still unclear [4– 6]. The high-risk factors of TP are usually attributed to tubal surgery [1], endometrial thickness [7], reproductive tract infections (especially genital tract Chlamydia trachomatis infection) [8], smoking [...
