The role of prophylactic internal iliac artery ligation in abnormally invasive placenta undergoing caesarean hysterectomy
Introduction and objectives of the study: Incorrect implantation of the placenta is observed when the placental villi penetrate through a very thin layer of the decidua, in some cases they can reach the uterine muscle and in extreme cases even the peritoneum or bladder wall. Complications associated with incorrect placental implantation include the risk of implantation site hemorrhage and impaired retraction and uterine atony after delivery. In addition to pharmacological methods of devascularization of the uterine muscle, more advanced surgical techniques are also used, including bilateral ligation of the internal iliac a...

Congenital cytomegalovirus infection in small for gestational age fetuses – retrospective single-center cohort study
Objective: According to obstetric literature cytomegalovirus infection (CMV) is one of non-placental causes of intrauterine growth restriction.1 Historically it was estimated that 5 % of growth restricted fetuses had one of all TORCH infection, particularly CMV. Newer data state that only a few cases of CMV infections were diagnosed in the small for gestational age (SGA) population, however the group sizes were small.2-5 (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

Foley catheter for labour induction among patients with premature rapture of membranes – a randomized controlled trial
Background: Prelabor rupture of membranes (PROM) occurs in 8-10% of pregnancies. Studies have demonstrated that the risk of maternal sepsis and neonatal infection secondary to chorioamnionitis increases with duration of PROM. According to available researches early birth for PROM at term can be the intervention reducing maternal and neonatal infections. In case of an unfavourable cervix, the use of mechanical methods like Foley catheter for cervix ripening demonstrates good effectiveness and safety. Some genetic aspects of covid-19 severe course in pregnant women
Introduction: The severe manifestations of Covid-19 often occur in persons without known risk factors, which determines the search for genetic determinants of susceptibility to a severe course of the disease. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

Klippel-trenaunay syndrome and pregnancy – the case report
Introduction: Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome (KTS) is an extremely rare condition (occurrence 1:100,000) that is associated with the abnormal development of blood vessels, soft tissues (skin and muscles), and bones. A triad of symptoms characterizes the disease: a red birthmark called a port-wine stain, abnormal overgrowth of soft tissues and bones, and vein malformations. The recognized cause of KTS is genetic mutations, primarily in the PIK3CA gene. During pregnancy, there is a significant increase in the risk of venous thromboembolism, thrombotic episodes, and severe, life-threatening postpartum haemorrhage. (Source: Europe...

Urethral funneling changes after successful and unsuccessful tvt implantation in women with stress urinary incontinence
Introduction: There are still no unequivocal methods on the operation and cause of failure of midurethral slings. Objective diagnostic methods before and after surgery in patients with SUI are sought. Pelvic floor ultrasound allows visualization of the pelvic floor and artificial materials at rest and dynamically. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

A comparative analysis of non-invasive preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidies using next-generation sequencing on spent culture media versus trophectoderm
Ni-PGTA (Non-invasive Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy) is a relatively new testing method that analyzes spent culture medium from in vitro fertilization (IVF) embryos to determine the genetic makeup of the embryos. This non-invasive approach eliminates the need for biopsy and allows for the identification of chromosomal abnormalities such as aneuploidy. The utility of ni-PGTA is to provide an efficient, accurate, and safe method for preimplantation genetic screening. The concordance between ni-PGTA and traditional biopsy-based methods for detecting aneuploidy is high, but still further research is needed to ...

Ukrainian maternity clinics in time of war: a struggle for life
In February 2022 Russia has started a full-scale invasion into Ukraine. Tens of thousands of innocent people were killed, and many Ukrainian hospitals were completely/partially destroyed or seriously damaged. Unfortunately, the maternity clinics also did not become an exception. Also, many Ukrainian medical institutions are located in the regions which were occupied by Russian army, some of them currently (January 2023) still not liberated. Use of power morcellation during minimally-invasive gynaecological procedures in Poland
Introduction and aims of the study: Power morcellation is a surgical technique enabling removal of presumably benign uterine mass during a laparoscopic procedure, which was widely used until 2014. Nowadays special precautions are advised in order to decrese the risk of disseminated peritoneal leiomyomatosis and spread of occult malignancy. The aim of this study was to analyse power morcellation use among Polish gynaecologists. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

Impact of inflammatory bowel disease on perinatal outcomes – Case report
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a term describing Crohn ’s disease and Colitis ulcerosa, characterized by inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract affecting more than 1,5 million women in US. The aim of this study is to present a clinical case of pregnant woman, who developed a severe phase of IBD and its influence of perinatal outcomes. Transvaginal hysterectomy as the best choice of operational technique
Introduction: Hysterectomy is the most frequently performed surgery in gynecology after caesarean section. Transvaginal hysterectomy is referred to as minimally invasive procedure – it does not cause such trauma to the abdominal wall as hysterectomy performed by laparotomy, thus contributing to faster recovery and shorter stay of the patient in the hospital. Usability of blood morphology in diagnostics of ovarian cancer
Introduction: It has been reported that the levels of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) might be correlated with ovarian cancer (OC) staging and useful in predicting OC histotype. Information on these parameters is usually obtained during routine diagnostics. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)

Vitamin d-binding protein (VDBP) and lactoferrin (LF) in plasma and peritoneal fluid (PF) in the diagnosis of endometriosis
Aim: Biochemical parameters and their interrelationships in plasma and peritoneal fluid (PF) may facilitate understanding of biological processes associated with endometriosis. Selection of vitamin D binding protein (VDBP) and lactoferrin (LF) is based on their characteristic properties and association with inflammatory processes. The aim of this study was to assess the concentrations and correlations of VDBP and LF in plasma and PF in order to investigate systemic and local pathology associated with endometriosis. Overview of patients with ohvira syndrome: diagnosis delay, misdiagnosis, and errors in management
Obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomaly (OHVIRA) syndrome, a rare congenital disorder, is estimated to occur in 1 out of 1000000 people. The OHVIRA is usually associated with uterine malformations; its symptoms include abdominal pain correlated with menstruation.
