Topical delivery of drugs in the treatment of high-grade cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions: A meta-analysis

High-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) and adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) are precancerous changes of cervical cancer. HSIL including cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 (CIN2) and grade 3 (CIN3) is usually caused by high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection. The transformation from HR-HPV infection to cervical cancer generally takes several decades. Thus, effective treatment and management of HSIL are essential to the secondary prevention of cervical cancer. Screening is an important strategy for detecting CIN.
