Acute abdominal pain caused by previously undiagnosed ruptured mucinous carcinoma in pregnancy
Introduction and aims of the study: Ovarian cancer incidence during pregnancy is rare (estimated as 1:10,000 to 1:50,000) but is second most frequent gynecological cancer diagnosed during pregnancy. Only 3 to 6% of all pregnancy-associated ovarian cysts are malignant, their diagnosis and management are complicated due to the lack of evidence from large randomized trials and cohort studies. The incidence of discovery of adnexal masses has increased with routine use of ultrasound during pregnancy. (Source: European Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Biology)
