A 9-year-old patient with indolent NK cell lymphoproliferative disorder: What role does an inherited SESN3 mutation play?
A 9-year-old male, who had experienced refractory hematochezia since infancy, was admitted to our hospital. He had previously gone to multiple hospitals and was successively diagnosed with eosinophilic gastroenteritis and ulcerative colitis, while the digestive ulcers did not improve after the treatment of oral glucocorticoid or infliximab. Upon admission to our hospital, all laboratory results were in the normal range, except for high platelets count and immunoglobulin E levels. Endoscopy revealed multiple ulcers throughout the digestive tract. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

A huge spleen with papillary intralymphatic angioendothelioma
A previously healthy 33-year-old woman was hospitalized with upper left quadrant mass for three months. The physical examination showed a huge mass in the upper left quadrant of abdomen. The blood tests results showed the WBC of 2.02 ×109 /L, Hb of 99 g/L and PLT of 37 × 109 /L. Enhanced abdominal computed tomography revealed a huge spleen with multiple space-occupying lesions (Fig.1A,1B). The lesions had no typical imaging features, only multiple low density lesions without obvious reinforcement were found. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Tuberculous peritonitis
A 62-year-old man presented with a 2-month history of abdominal swelling, loss of appetite, and a significant 5-kilogram weight loss. Physical examination revealed emaciation, abdominal swelling, and shifting dullness. Lab tests showed monocytosis, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein. An 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) PET/CT scan found lung calcification, pleural effusion, mesentery, and peritoneum thickening with diffuse 18F-FDG accumulation (Fig.  1). Tuberculosis tests including anti-tuberculosis antibody test and tuberculin skin test were negative except for a slightly positive tuberculosi...

LncRNA AGAP2-AS1 in cancer: An insufficiently explored and controversial research area
In this study, the authors revealed that AGAP2-AS1 expression was significantly elevated in colorectal cancer (CRC) cells and could b e transcriptionally activated by E2F Transcription Factor 4 (E2F4). Down-regulated AGAP2-AS1 could weaken CRC cell growth, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Bacterial infections predispose to the development of portal vein thrombosis in patients with decompensated cirrhosis
We read with interest the original article by Dalbeni et  al., investigating the association between bacterial infections and portal vein thrombosis (PVT) in cirrhosis (1). They recruited 202 consecutive patients with cirrhosis without history of bacterial infections. Patients were prospectively followed for up to 5 years or until one of the following: d eath, transplant, TIPS, PVT, or start of anticoagulation. Any episode of bacterial infection requiring hospitalization during follow-up was collected. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Sieving out non-celiac gluten sensitivity amongst patients with irritable bowel syndrome
It is challenging to make diagnosis of non-celiac gluten sensitivity/non-celiac wheat sensitivity (NCGS/NCWS) in clinical practice, since there is no biomarker and diagnosis is based on response to gluten-free-diet (GFD). We used anti-gliadin antibody (AGA) for screening patients with IBS for gluten-sensitivity. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Analysis of exposome and genetic variability suggests stress as a major contributor for development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma
The current knowledge on pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) risk factors is limited and no study has comprehensively tested the exposome in combination with the genetic variability in relation to the disease susceptibility. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Endoscopic submucosal dissection for oesophageal cavernous haemangioma accompanied by squamous epithelial dysplasia
A 70-year-old man with dysphagia presented to our hospital. Gastroscopy revealed a submucosal eminence with a bluish surface in the anterior wall of the oesophagus 20 –23 cm from the incisor, which was soft to the touch (Fig. 1A). Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) showed a 10.5 × 18.5 mm hypoechoic and homogeneous mass in the submucosal layer (Fig. 1B). The patient was initially diagnosed with a submucosal bulge of the oesophagus, and atypical hemangioma was t he first consideration. A subsequent computed tomography (CT) scan confirmed the presence and location of the lesion (Fig. 2). (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Genome-wide association analysis reveals the associations of NPHP4, TYW1-AUTS2 and SEMA6D for Beh çet's disease and HLA-B*46:01 for its intestinal involvement
Intestinal involvement in Beh çet's disease (BD) is associated with poor prognosis and is more prevalent in East Asian than in Mediterranean populations. Identifying the genetic causes of intestinal BD is important for understanding the pathogenesis and for appropriate treatment of BD patients. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)
