The long intergenic non-coding RNA LINC01140 modulates gastric cancer phenotypes and cancer cell lines aggressiveness
Long-intergenic non-protein coding gene 01140 (LINC01140) a long non-coding RNA is highly expressed in various cancers. However, its biological functions in gastric cancer progression is still unknown. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Author's reply: The importance of professional training to foster the implementation of Artificial Intelligence in the clinical setting of liver diseases
I have carefully read the letter entitled “Artificial intelligence for liver diseases: The urgency of collaboration” by Cesaretti and colleagues [1], which comments on our review on the advantages and pitfalls of the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the study, management and treatment of liver diseases [2]. Indeed, the com mentary points out questions and interesting insights that require further discussion. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Combination of Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) and Sarcopenia predicts mortality after transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS)
TIPS is the most effective treatment for portal hypertension. Patient selection remains important to achieving optimal post-TIPS outcomes. The study evaluates 1-year mortality factors in cirrhotic patients receiving TIPS.Methods: 87 cirrhotic patients received a TIPS between 2015 - 2021. Predictors of 1-year and overall mortality were assessed by estimating cumulative incidence functions and Grey's test to adjust for liver transplantation as a risk competing with mortality. Resmetirom for the treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis: Evaluating the robustness of available evidence
Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), recently renamed metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) [1] is still an orphan condition, with no pharmacological therapy yet approved for use in clinical practice. Nonetheless, the clinical trial landscape in the field is rapidly changing with several molecules currently being studied in Phase 3 clinical programs. In particular, thyroid hormone beta receptor (TRB) agonists have received considerable attention as they reduce de novo lipogenesis, promote fatty acid oxidation, modulate mitophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis as well as cholesterol metabolism and potential...

Portal hypertension is associated with poorer outcome and clinical liver decompensation in patients with HCC treated with Atezolizumab-Bevacizumab
Portal hypertension (PHT) often complicates hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment and prognosis. We aimed to assess PHT's impact on AtezoBev outcomes and identify predictors of acute variceal bleeding (AVB) and clinical ascites occurrence. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

“Per ELISA”: Time to adopt anti-transglutaminase/deamidated gliadin peptide diagnostic combination in coeliac disease of adults?
Anti-endomysial antibodies (EMA) and anti-tissue transglutaminases (a-tTg) play a pivotal role in coeliac disease (CD) diagnosis. Deamidated anti-gliadin peptides (DGP) were added to the CD diagnostic workup. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Author's reply: AI in medicine, bridging the chasm between potential and capability
We thank Dr. Koga and colleagues for commenting on our recent publication [1]. Their commentary delves into the promises and challenges associated with artificial intelligence (AI) in medical image interpretation, further enriching and refining the implications of our research [2]. By underscoring the critical significance of selecting the appropriate machine learning architecture, their analysis presents a clear roadmap for integrating AI into future medical practices. Despite the relative focus on the field of medical imaging, their commentary offers an opportunity for us to revisit the gap between the potential and the ...

The 1st EoETALY Consensus on the Diagnosis and Management of Eosinophilic Esophagitis –Current Treatment and Monitoring
The present document constitutes Part 2 of the EoETALY Consensus Statements guideline on the diagnosis and management of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) developed by experts in the field of EoE across Italy (i.e., EoETALY Consensus Group). Part 1 was published as a different document, and included three chapters discussing 1) definition, epidemiology, and pathogenesis; 2) clinical presentation and natural history and 3) diagnosis of EoE. The present work provides guidelines on the management of EoE in two final chapters: 4) treatment and 5) monitoring and follow-up, and also includes considerations on knowledge gaps and a p...

“The crackers challenge”: A reassuring low-dose gluten challenge in adults on gluten-free diet without proper diagnosis of coeliac disease
Gluten-free diet (GFD) is the one therapy in coeliac disease (CeD). Unfortunately, some patients adopt GFD before the diagnostic work-up. The guidelines suggest a 14-day gluten intake> 3 gr to get CeD diagnosis, although many subjects refuse this approach. Other evidence showed that the intake of 50 mg/day of gluten for 3 months could be useful for CeD diagnosis. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Diagnosis and management of anemia in pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases: Clinical practice guidelines on behalf of the SIGENP IBD Working group
Anemia is one of the most frequent extra-intestinal manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease. Insidious onset, variability of symptoms and lack of standardized screening practices may increase the risk of underestimating its burden in children with IBD. Despite its relevance and peculiarity in everyday clinical practice, this topic is only dealt with in a few documents specifically for the pediatric field. The aim of the current guidelines is therefore to provide pediatric gastroenterologists with a practical update to support the clinical and therapeutic management of children with IBD and anemia.
