Enhancing human-AI collaboration: The case of colonoscopy
Diagnostic errors impact patient health and healthcare costs. Artificial Intelligence (AI) shows promise in mitigating this burden by supporting Medical Doctors in decision-making. However, the mere display of excellent or even superhuman performance by AI in specific tasks does not guarantee a positive impact on medical practice. Effective AI assistance should target the primary causes of human errors and foster effective collaborative decision-making with human experts who remain the ultimate decision-makers. Acute pancreatitis is associated with gut dysbiosis in children
Pediatric acute pancreatitis (AP) is associated with significant morbidity. Therefore, improved understanding of children who will develop severe AP is critical. Adult studies have reported AP associated gut dysbiosis, but pediatric studies are lacking. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Pneumatic dilation for achalasia in the “POEM era”: Still a valuable ally
Endoscopic treatments such as peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) and pneumatic dilation (PD) are commonly used to treat achalasia. Although POEM has gained popularity due to its high efficacy, the technique is more complex and may be associated with a higher risk of long-term complications compared to PD. This narrative review will focus on efficacy and safety of PD and POEM, and their suitability for different patient populations. While evidence suggests that POEM may be preferred for type III achalasia, PD remains a valuable alternative for patients with a straight, non-dilated esophagus, who prioritize the preservation o...

Net survival in colon and rectal cancer by stage according to neoadjuvant treatment. A French population-based study
Real-life estimations of survival by stage in colorectal cancer are scanty. We estimated population-based net survival by pathological stage and location, and for rectal cancer by patterns of evolution according to clinical and pathological stage with regard to neoadjuvant therapy. Aquaporin 1 in cancer: Oncogene or a tumor suppressor?
In this study, the authors revealed that AQP1 expression is associated with a favourable prognosis in intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) patients. They further showed that AQP1 inhibits ICC cell invasion, metastasis and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) through down-regulation of Snail expression. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Serum metabolomic analysis in cirrhotic alcohol-associated liver disease patients identified differentially altered microbial metabolites and novel potential biomarkers for disease severity
Alcohol-Associated Liver Disease (ALD) is a leading cause of liver mortality. Mechanisms responsible for severe ALD and the roles of gut microbiota are not fully understood. Multi-omics tools have enabled a better understanding of metabolic alterations and can aid in identifying metabolites as biomarkers for severe ALD. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)
