To be or NOD 2 be: The role of NOD2 in predisposing patients with cirrhosis towards infections
Cirrhosis is the end-stage of all chronic liver diseases, which still accounts for a large, annual number of deaths worldwide [1]. The development of ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, gastrointestinal bleeding or bacterial infection or their combination leads to acute decompensation (AD) in patients with liver cirrhosis. AD can result in organ failure defining the acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) with high mortality rate [2]. Strikingly, proven bacterial infection and/or severe acute alcoholic hepatitis are the most frequent precipitants. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Exploring a novel composite method using non-contrast EUS enhanced microvascular imaging and cyst fluid analysis to differentiate pancreatic cystic lesions
Differentiating pancreatic cystic lesions (PCLs) remains a diagnostic challenge. The use of high-definition imaging modalities which detect tumor microvasculature have been described in solid lesions. We aim to evaluate the usefulness of cystic microvasculature when used in combination with cyst fluid biochemistry to differentiate PCLs. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Investigation of the causal relationship between Interleukin-6 signaling and gastrointestinal tract cancers: A Mendelian randomization study
Observational studies indicate that interleukin-6(IL-6) has been associated with gastrointestinal tract cancers. However, the causal association is still confusing. Thus, we aimed to putative the causality between IL-6 signaling and gastrointestinal tract cancers. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

The strategic use of biopsy in the diagnosis of coeliac disease in adults
The paediatric guidelines support the use of the ‘No Biopsy Approach’ in the diagnosis of coeliac disease (CD). We aimed to determine the correlation between anti tissue transglutaminase (anti-TTG serology) ≥10 times the upper limit of normal (ULN), using the Celikey ® ELiA assay and histological findings. Our secondary aim was to determine the safety of this approach in our centre. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Foreign body ingestion in children: Definition of a nomogram to predict surgical or endoscopic intervention
This study aims to develop a nomogram that identifies children who require urgent surgical or endoscopic intervention by using the patient's medical history and clinical parameters collected at admission. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Comment on: Effect of exercise-based interventions in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: A systematic review with meta-analysis
We recently read an article in 'Dig Liver Dis' by Nan et  al. The authors reviewed the existing literature to quantitatively assess the effects of exercise-based interventions in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease [1]. However, this study may have been flawed in its execution. To further improve the quality and readability of the paper, we w ould like to make some comments to further improve this critical study. Corticosteroid use in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases: A real-life sub-analysis of the Italian DICE study
Despite the availability of novel treatments such as immunomodulators and biologic therapies, corticosteroids (CS) still play an important role in inducing remission of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) [1]. Indeed, while steroids are routinely used in IBD for the management of acute flares, some patients receive prolonged exposure to these drugs and the long-term administration of CS is associated with several side-effects and a lack of efficacy in maintaining remission [2,3]. Cyclophosphamide maintenance to extend combination chemotherapy-free interval in metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma
Administering chemotherapy until progression to metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) patients lacks of supporting evidence and causes cumulative toxicity. We explored the role of cyclophosphamide as maintenance therapy. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Myosteatosis independently predicts transplant-free survival in patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis
Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) is a progressive cholestatic liver disease with liver transplantation (LT) as the only curative therapy. Some regions use body-weight-loss as standard-exception criteria for organ allocation but data on the impact of body composition on survival of patients with PSC is scarce. Dynamic nomogram for predicting infected pancreatic necrosis in female patients of childbearing age with hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute pancreatitis
Hypertriglyceridemia is a common cause of acute pancreatitis. Pregnant women are at risk of developing hypertriglyceridemia-induced acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP); however, whether pregnancy increases the risk of infected pancreatic necrosis (IPN) is unknown. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Efficacy of 1 L polyethylene glycol plus ascorbate versus 4 L polyethylene glycol in split-dose for colonoscopy cleansing in out and inpatient: A multicentre, randomized trial (OVER 2019)
Adequate bowel cleansing is essential for colonoscopy quality. A novel 1  L polyethylene glycol plus ascorbate (1 L PEG+ASC) solution has been recently introduced. Nevertheless, the efficacy of 1 L PEG+ASC as compared to that of high-volume bowel preparation in both inpatients and outpatients is still unclear. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

International Delphi Consensus Study on disposable single-use endoscopy: A path to clinical adoption
Increasing infectious rate estimates and low microbiological surveillance affect safety of gastrointestinal endoscopy globally. Single use endoscopes and accessories have been claimed to improve safety, but there is lack of data on their indication and sustainability. We aimed to identify a series of best practice recommendations for the use of single use endoscopes and accessories using a modified Delphi. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)
