Reply to comment on: "Association between use of low-dose aspirin and detection of colorectal polyps and cancer in a screening setting"
We thank Professor Shih-Wei Lai for his interest in our manuscript. As stated by Professor Lai, our study was a cross-sectional study, where we evaluated the association between use of aspirin and detection of colorectal cancer and its precursor lesions in individuals who attended the screening [1,2]. We agree that, given the design of the study, no causal relationship between exposure and outcome could be determined. In fact, our conclusions do not imply causality and only point out the association between the exposure and the outcome. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

OTUD7B deubiquitinates and stabilizes YAP1 to upregulate NUAK2 expression, thus accelerating gastric cancer procession
Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. Ovarian tumor protein superfamily serves a crucial role in tumor growth progression, among them, ovarian tumor domain-containing 7B (OTUD7B) as a deubiquitinase (DUB) is frequently found in various cancers, but the role of OTUD7B in GC is poorly understood. Author's reply: “Mean platelet volume may not be an indicator for prognosis in patients with alcohol use disorder”
We thank Profs. C. Beyan and E. Beyan for their interest [1] in our recently published article, entitled “Mean platelet volume and mortality in patients with alcohol use disorder” [2]. Research in analyzing the clinical meaning of altered platelet volume (MPV) has increased recently, in parallel with the relentless increasing research about platelets’ physiology, especially in relation with infla mmation and/or acute organic stress [3]. In this sense, many authors have found that altered platelet size may be related to inflammation, severity and/or adverse outcome in several clinical conditions, as compiled by Kornil...

Comment on “Effect of vessels that encapsulate tumor clusters (VETC) and different stages of hepatocellular carcinoma after hepatectomy”
Wang et  al. [1] recently conducted a study investigating the impact of vessels that encapsulate tumor clusters (VETC) on the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients at different stages following hepatectomy. Their research provides valuable insights into the prognostic implications of VETC in HCC and enhances our understanding of disease management. The authors comprehensively analyzed the association between VETC and various clinicopathological factors, disease recurrence, and overall survival rates in a cohort of HCC patients who underwent hepatectomy. Efficacy and safety of proactive drug monitoring in inflammatory bowel disease treated with anti-TNF agents: A systematic review and meta-analysis
A systematic review and a meta-analysis of the literature was conducted to assess efficacy and safety of proactive therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) versus conventional management during maintenance treatment with anti-tumour necrosis factor (anti-TNF α) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Addition of trastuzumab to perioperative chemotherapy in HER2-positive gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma patients: A multicenter retrospective observational AGEO study
Approximately 10 –20% of patients with gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma (GE-ADK) have HER2-positive tumors. The addition of trastuzumab to chemotherapy improves OS in patients with advanced disease. We investigated the effect of perioperative trastuzumab on survival outcomes. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Impacts of gut microbiota alteration on age-related chronic liver diseases
The gut microbiome and its metabolites are involved in developing and progressing liver disease. Various liver illnesses, such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, hepatitis C, and hepatocellular carcinoma, are made worse and have worse prognoses with aging. Dysbiosis, which occurs when the symbiosis between the microbiota and the host is disrupted, can significantly negatively impact health. Liver disease is linked to qualitative changes, such as an increase in hazardous bacteria and a decrease in good bacteria, as well as quantitative changes in the overall amount of bacteria (overgrowth). (Sour...

Prevalence and risk factors for multi-drug resistant bacterial infections in patients undergoing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography
Multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacterial infections represent one of the most challenging public health issues. Some studies highlighted a growing risk of transmission of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae and other MDR infections in patients undergoing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) [1 –3]. Recent evidence reports that a thorough protocol of endoscope reprocessing and screening of patients for MDR might reduce the risk of biofilm accumulation and colonization [4,5]. However, the risk factors for developing an infection in this setting are poorly characterized. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Study protocol for a multicenter randomized controlled trial to compare radiofrequency ablation with surgical resection for treatment of pancreatic insulinoma
Insulinoma is the most common functional pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor and treatment is required to address symptoms associated with insulin hypersecretion. Surgical resection is effective but burdened by high rate of adverse events (AEs). Endoscopic ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (EUS-RFA) demonstrated encouraging results in terms of safety and efficacy for the management of these tumors. However, studies comparing surgery and EUS-RFA are lacking. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Diagnostic value of anti-integrin αvβ6 antibodies in ulcerative colitis
Ulcerative colitis (UC)-related mucosal inflammation is characterized by the production of various autoantibodies with limited clinical relevance. Recent studies have shown that circulating levels of IgG against integrin αvβ6 are increased in UC patients as compared to Crohn's disease (CD) patients and healthy controls (HC). The present study assessed the diagnostic value of circulating IgG anti-αvβ6 in UC.Sera were prospectively collected from 108 outpatients with UC, 103 patients with CD, and 62 HC, and the le vels of IgG anti-αvβ6 were measured using a commercially available ELISA kit. HOTAIR: A potential therapeutic target in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma?
In this study, the authors revealed that HOTAIR was overexpressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tumor tissues than the non-tumor tissues. They further showed that high HOTAIR expression exhibited close correlation with HCC progression and high expression of HOTAIR was associated with a poorer prognosis of HCC.
