A metallothionein gene from hard clam Meretrix meretrix: Sequence features, expression patterns, and metal tolerance activities
Dev Comp Immunol. 2023 Sep 12:105057. doi: 10.1016/j.dci.2023.105057. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetallothioneins (MTs) are low-molecular weight cytoplasmic heavy metal binding proteins. MTs can regulate the concentration of essential or non-essential metals in organisms, and have many important biological functions, including detoxification, trace element metabolism, and anti-oxidation. In the present study, we cloned and characterized a metallothionein gene (designated as MmMT) from the hard clam Meretrix meretrix. The complete cDNA sequence of MmMT contained an open reading frame (ORF) of 629 bp, which encoded a prot...

First report of L1 cell adhesion molecule (L1CAM) in flat fish (Starry flounder): Molecular features and expression analysis
In this study, the starry flounder L1 cell adhesion molecule (L1CAM) sequence was obtained using next-generation sequencing, and the integrity of the sequence was verified by cloning and sequencing. First, the amino acid sequence was predicted using the cDNA sequence, and the gene was then identified through multiple sequence alignment analysis with related sequences and phylogenetic analysis. Thus, homogeneity was confirmed. The expression level of PsL1CAM (Platichthys stellatus L1CAM) mRNA in healthy starry flounder was detected in all tissues used in the experiment, and tissue- and gene-specific expression levels were c...

WR-PTXF, a novel short pentraxin, protects gut mucosal barrier and enhances the antibacterial activity in Carassius cuvieri × Carassius auratus red var
Dev Comp Immunol. 2023 Sep 9;149:105055. doi: 10.1016/j.dci.2023.105055. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe pentraxin family is an evolutionarily conserved group that plays an important role in innate immunity. C-reactive protein (CRP) and serum amyloid P component (SAP) are classical members of the short pentraxins and are known to be the major acute phase proteins. In this work, we have cloned a novel pentraxin fusion protein, WR-PTXF, from Carassius cuvieri × Carassius auratus red var. In fish, the biological function of PTXF is essentially unknown. For this purpose, we report the identification and analysis of WR-PTXF ...
