L’inhibition de l’attention envers les signaux émotionnels de son partenaire amoureux modère la relation entre l’attachement évitant et la confiance. / Inhibition of attention to the emotional signals of his romantic partner moderates the relationship between avoidant attachment and trust.
The goal of this study was to test whether insecure attachment, in combination with a misallocated attention toward one’s partner, would influence trust in one’s partner. Forty-five couples were recruited during their visit to a bridal salon. The 2-stage study first consisted of participants completing a demographic questionnaire, measures of relationship-specific attachment and dyadic trust, and a Dot Probe task measuring their attentional bias toward their partner’s and strangers’ emotional expressions. Five months later, participants again completed the demographic questionnaire and the dyadic trust scale. The A...

"Buying into thoughts ”: Validation of a French translation of the Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire.
This research reports the psychometric properties of a French version of the Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire (CFQ). Cognitive fusion is 1 of the central concepts of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), a form of cognitive –behavioural therapy (CBT). Cognitive fusion is defined as the excessive dominance of verbal or cognitive events on behaviour, relative to other sources of behavioural influence. Cognitive fusion is characterised by entanglement in thinking, taking thoughts literally and viewing them as highly bel ievable or factually accurate. Despite the relevance of cognitive fusion, very few instruments are avail...

Facteurs maternels associ és au cycle intergénérationnel de la victimisation sexuelle dans l’enfance parmi des femmes de la population générale.
The objective of this study was to identify maternal factors associated with the intergenerational cycle of childhood sexual abuse among mothers in the general population. A group of 45 mothers who were victims of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and who have at least one child who was also sexually abused was compared to a group of 116 CSA victim mothers of children who had not been sexually abused before the age of 18. The groups were compared on CSA characteristics experienced, the presence of other maltreatment in childhood and different potential consequences of CSA in adulthood. Logistic regression analysis shows that th...

The significance of attachment quality for obesity: A meta-analytic review.
This study used meta-analytic methods to systematically examine the empirical, peer-reviewed evidence regarding the relationship between attachment quality and body mass index (BMI) in separate meta-analyses for children and adults. Relevant peer-reviewed literature published between 1990 and 2013 was obtained from PubMed, PsycINFO, and reference lists of included articles. Results of the meta-analysis for studies with adults indicated a small but statistically significant association between attachment quality and BMI (absolute value of weighted average r = .05, p = .03; 95% confidence interval, CI [.004 to .09]; number o...

Nontraditional families, family attitudes, and relationship outcomes in emerging adulthood.
Recent decades have seen a broadening of the definition of family in society at large, but the influence of family structure on offspring is yet to be fully understood. Data from 313 emerging adults, all in couples, were used to examine indirect associations between family structure and emerging adults’ expectations of current relationship success through their attitudes toward cohabitation, nonmarital childbearing stigma, and current relationship quality. Results of path analyses revealed that emerging adults from nontraditional families demonstrated positive attitudes toward cohabitation. Acceptance of cohabitation was...

Attitudes toward anthropometric measurements in youth: The role of eating pathology.
The current study assessed attitudes of youth toward anthropometric measurements—specifically, weight and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) measurements. We hypothesized that nonclinical youth would report fewer intrusive thoughts about MUAC than about weight measurements, and that higher eating pathology would be associated with more intrusive thoughts. We further hypothesized that youth with an eating disorder would have more negative comments about anthropometric measurements than would nonclinical youth. Nonclinical youth were recruited from local schools, while youth with eating disorders were recruited from an eat...

L ’efficacité de l’approche d’acceptation et d’engagement en regard de la santé psychologique et de l’engagement scolaire des étudiants universitaires. / The effectiveness of the approach of acceptance and commitment with regard to the psychological health and academic engagement of unive rsity students.
Many university students experience psychological health issues that undermine their academic success. In this quasi-experimental study, 90 (N = 90) students from 3 universities in Quebec (Canada) participated in a group intervention based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). A pretest-posttest switching-replication design including 3 measuring times was used to evaluate the impact of the intervention on 1) psychological flexibility, 2) psychological health (stress, psychological wellbeing, anxiety and depression) and 3) academic commitment. Repeated measures ANCOVA demonstrate a positive effect of the intervention ...

Generation text: Relations among undergraduates ’ use of text messaging, textese, and language and literacy skills.
The present study investigated the current prevalence of textese and the relations between text messaging behavior and language- and literacy-related domains using a multifaceted approach in which participants completed texting tasks with their own personal handheld device. The sample of 51 1st-year university students also completed standardized tests of spelling, reading, and vocabulary and reported on their own frequency of texting. Text messages were analyzed for textese use, and the speed at which participants composed messages was recorded. Results indicated that there was little association between text-messaging fr...

La demande d ’explication dans le contexte d’un incident: Effets du degré de puissance de la force illocutoire et du sexe sur le cours et l’issue d’un échange. / The application of explanation in the context of an incident: Effects of the degree of power of illocutionary force and sex on the course and the outcome of an exchange.
The aim of this article is to study account sequences following an incident, focusing on the content and the mode of expression of the statement that initiates the request. Referring to the theory of communication contract and using the vignette method, participants are asked to produce interlocutory sequences. The results show that these sequences vary according to the intensity of the illocutionary force (strong vs weak) and to the sex of respondents (woman vs. man). The results are discussed in terms of the relationship between intensity of illocutionary force, dominance and interpersonal relationship. (PsycINFO Databas...

Hypersexualit é chez les étudiants universitaires hétérosexuels. / Hypersexuality in heterosexual college students.
This study examined hypersexuality (i.e., greater sexual desire or more frequent sexual behaviour than the norm, accompanied by negative consequences or distress) in a sample of heterosexual university students using various questionnaires and indicators. The sample included 717 male and female students between the ages of 18 and 24 who attended an Ontario university. Sex differences were found for many of the questionnaires and indicators, suggesting that men were more hypersexual than women. In addition, when compared to the adult sample from L ångström and Hanson (2006), our participants were more hypersexual across t...

D éterminants personnels de l’intention de réaliser une mobilité inter- et intra-organisationnelle. / Personal determinants of intention to achieve inter- and intra-organizational mobility.
Since occupational mobility can be desirable or something to be avoided, it is important to establish the antecedents of an intention to seek job change. The present research examines the extent to which a sense of self-efficacy, perception of uncertainty, and experience of job change influence an intention to change employer (external or inter-organizational mobility) or to seek a new assignment within the same organization (internal or intra-organizational mobility). The study finds that an intention to make an external move is determined by education, and recent experience of initiating an external job change and of con...
