La demande d ’explication dans le contexte d’un incident: Effets du degré de puissance de la force illocutoire et du sexe sur le cours et l’issue d’un échange. / The application of explanation in the context of an incident: Effects of the degree of power of illocutionary force and sex on the course and the outcome of an exchange.

The aim of this article is to study account sequences following an incident, focusing on the content and the mode of expression of the statement that initiates the request. Referring to the theory of communication contract and using the vignette method, participants are asked to produce interlocutory sequences. The results show that these sequences vary according to the intensity of the illocutionary force (strong vs weak) and to the sex of respondents (woman vs. man). The results are discussed in terms of the relationship between intensity of illocutionary force, dominance and interpersonal relationship.
