La demande d’explication dans le contexte d’un incident: Effets du degré de puissance de la force illocutoire et du sexe sur le cours et l’issue d’un échange. / The application of explanation in the context of an incident: Effects of the degree of power of illocutionary force and sex on the course and the outcome of an exchange.
The aim of this article is to study account sequences following an incident, focusing on the content and the mode of expression of the statement that initiates the request. Referring to the theory of communication contract and using the vignette method, participants are asked to produce interlocutory sequences. The results show that these sequences vary according to the intensity of the illocutionary force (strong vs weak) and to the sex of respondents (woman vs. man). The results are discussed in terms of the relationship between intensity of illocutionary force, dominance and interpersonal relationship. (PsycINFO Databas...

Hypersexualité chez les étudiants universitaires hétérosexuels. / Hypersexuality in heterosexual college students.
This study examined hypersexuality (i.e., greater sexual desire or more frequent sexual behaviour than the norm, accompanied by negative consequences or distress) in a sample of heterosexual university students using various questionnaires and indicators. The sample included 717 male and female students between the ages of 18 and 24 who attended an Ontario university. Sex differences were found for many of the questionnaires and indicators, suggesting that men were more hypersexual than women. In addition, when compared to the adult sample from Långström and Hanson (2006), our participants were more hypersexual across th...

Déterminants personnels de l’intention de réaliser une mobilité inter- et intra-organisationnelle. / Personal determinants of intention to achieve inter- and intra-organizational mobility.
Since occupational mobility can be desirable or something to be avoided, it is important to establish the antecedents of an intention to seek job change. The present research examines the extent to which a sense of self-efficacy, perception of uncertainty, and experience of job change influence an intention to change employer (external or inter-organizational mobility) or to seek a new assignment within the same organization (internal or intra-organizational mobility). The study finds that an intention to make an external move is determined by education, and recent experience of initiating an external job change and of con...

Race−crime congruency in the Canadian context.
We examined whether cases in which the defendant’s race was congruent with a race-stereotypic crime would result in more guilty verdicts and different responsibility attributions. Canadian jury−eligible participants read 1 of 3 fictional trial transcripts in which we varied the race of the defendant (Black, White, or Aboriginal Canadian). We hypothesised that the Black defendant would receive the harshest treatment in an auto theft case, the White defendant in a fraud case, and the Aboriginal Canadian defendant in a case of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Results demonstrated only modest evide...

A linguistic inquiry and word count analysis of the Adult Attachment Interview in two large corpora.
An emerging literature suggests that variation in Adult Attachment Interview (AAI; George, Kaplan, & Main, 1985) states of mind about childhood experiences with primary caregivers is reflected in specific linguistic features captured by the Linguistic Inquiry Word Count (LIWC) automated text analysis program (Pennebaker, Booth, & Francis, 2007). The current report addressed limitations of prior studies in this literature by using 2 large AAI corpora (Ns = 826 and 857) and a broader range of linguistic variables, as well as examining associations of LIWC-derived AAI dimensions with key developmental antecedents. First, regr...
